I've owned guinea pigs for 5 years now and I keep them in a 3 storey cage which I bought from a pet shop. I keep them in a shed and I use wood shavings as bedding.

I have just convinced my dad to let me bring them into the house and even to build a C&C cage. I am yet to convince my mum. It probably won't happen for a while as I need to save up for all the supplies. I have a few questions first.

What size would I be looking at for three piggies, possibly four as I'm considering getting another?
Would a loft be suitable as I would like to keep all their food and hay confined to one area?
Does coloured correx show urine stains more then white correx?
Would I have to buy a cage liner or would just two layers of normal fleece work?
Would it be better to use puppy pads or a mattress protector under the fleece?

Sorry there's a lot of questions but I just want to be prepared.
Thanks

Wooh!
Ireland twinsies!
But anyway.
30" x 62" Is the reccomended c&c cage for 3 gp!
I say just get a white one.
Hmm,if your looking to start using fleece i think you have to have cage liner.
Puppy pads are used by alot of owners.
So yeah, you can use puppy pads for your fleece.
And also, i think towels can be used for cage liners too!

A 2x5 C&C is recommended for 3 pigs (plus any loft you want to add) I can't advice re fleecey stuff as I use substrate in mine. I have recently upgraded my trio to an L shaped 2x7 and whilst I really wouldn't put four in a 2x5, four in a 2x6 or 2x7 would be fine.

I have white correx and it shows pee stains quite a lot !

Thank you. I'll have do some measurements. I think a 2x6 would suit even if I don't get my extra pig, I'd say my trio would appreciate the extra space.

Wooo I'm Irish too! That's all I have to add haha
:yahoo: I thought I was one of the only ones!

Thanks. Towels are a good idea to and they're inexpensive

I've just made a 6x2 for my 3 girls.

I have black correx as I have black grids. Stains don't show but white piggy furs does!

I use fleece with puppy pads underneath but am going to make liners soon.

How often do you change the puppy pads?

no irish blood... sorry!
but I give you some advice. My correx is orange and gets never wet or dirty with the wee or the poo because the wee goes to the layer underneath the fleece: I use newspapers or supermarkets leaflets. Beneath the paper there are some old towels but they remain clean and also the correx remains clean of course. I change wet spots once a day; it is a fast work and I do that during piggies' floor time. Of course this is cost free...
Under the fleece you need an absorbent layer, newspapers, puppy pads, something else... but not another layer of fleece because the fleece should remain dry even when the lower layer is wet.
I add some pictures just for making you understand better. My cage is not a C&C, I built it with some materials and the correx as a basis; nothing special...
But the inside works perfectly and I am totally satisfied because there is no smell at all in the living room and piggies are always dry.

My fleece is only a piece of fabric.
If you also find in your mailbox loads of leaflets or if you have supermarkets nearby, this might be the right solution for saving money:tu:
