Hi, I've recently acquired two beautiful little lady pigs :luv: but I'm not content with their current cage arrangement and I'm thinking about buying one of these C&C cages that everyone seems to have.

I just wondered how people found them? Are they easy enough to clean, are they well sealed at the corners (no leakages onto the floor?). Are piggies happy to go up to the loft area, looks steep to me but then I don't know well what guinea pigs are happy doing. Those who line them with fleece, do you wash only once a week? I saw this on the how to make a cage liner thread, I expected it would be necessary more frequently than that due to smell? I don't think I could afford to continue filling it with the Back2Nature stuff. These cages cost a small fortune and I just want to know I'm making the right decision first.

I'll probably end up getting the 4x2 even though I'm pretty short on space, does anyone have the 3x2, is it enough for 2 piggies really?

Thanks for any info!

I have 4 boars separated into 2 pairs. Each pair has a 5 ft c & c cage (4 grids x 2 grids). They absolutely love it. It's much bigger than their previous 120cm shop bought cages. If the correx is cut correctly and tapped correctly, then I've found there is no leakage. They are very easy to clean, I use Back 2 Nature litter over whole floor and then top with a layer of hay. I do a full clean once a week. I use about 10 litres of the litter in each clean per cage. I don't have a loft area on my cages.

Thanks for replying! Gosh I don't think I could manage with that level of back2nature, at the minute I have a set up that is about the same area as the 3x2, but it is half a pet shop cage and half a picnic blanket on the floor (fenced off), so only the cage bit needs the litter and that is ok for me.

Glad to hear they are easy to clean.

2x4 is the recommended size for two sows. Not sure about the ramp but I've made a few 'bunk beds' with the grids that they love (Google "c and c cage bunk bed"). Yes I only wash the fleece once a week when I do the full cage clean but they litter trained themselves to go only on the wood shavings section so doesn't get wet or anything!
When I first started using fleece I didn't have the wood shaving section and the fleece would start smelling the day you put it down.

Hi.I love my c&c.It can be adapted to any shape .I have litter trays where most of the wee is done.I don't have correx just a ground sheet then towels then fleece. The fleece wicks the wee to the towel.Change it twice a week cos there are six in it.I have synopses and their hay in the litter trays.Works well for me

image.webp I have 2 pairs of boys one set in a 2x5 and one set in a 2x6. I used to use just cage liners from Ziggies piggies. But my boys can be quite smelly. (Think boys are more stinky than girls). But recently I have added a bedding area by folding back the liner at one end of the cage where hay is. And it seems to be cutting down the smell a bit. I need to change my liners at least every 4 days. I just shake them off outside and pop in wash in a "horse wear" wash bag as stops hay/hair etc clogging the machine. I Hoover up the poops every day (multiple times if I'm home) with a wet and dry handheld vac. And skip out the bedding area daily. I put puppy pads under my liners as my boys pee a lot! But you don't really have to. Never had issues with corex leaking. Hope this helps. Also I never bought a "kit" for my c&c I purchased a pack of grids and corex separately. Sometimes you are cheaper this way.

I have two boars in a 4 x 2 cage with a 1 x 2 hay loft. The stair is made of two bent cubes with carpet attached. I have a sheet of vinyl under the cage, corex, newspaper, towels and fleece. I use a thicker layer of paper & towels under the hay loft where they tend to sit more. The hay loft has sawdust and hay. I tried back to nature and sawdust and hay. The sawdust and hay caused too much mess. The back to nature was cleaner but disposal of the waste was difficult. With the fleece I pick up poo every morning and evening. I tend to change my fleece twice a week under the hay loft and the main part once a week. Cleaning out the cage is much easier with the fleece. I just roll it up and take it outside to shake. I lay the fleece out rub it over with a wet washing up glove to remove loose hair and then into the machine. I find the hayloft useful for boars as It gives them more room to escape from each other when they are feeling grumpy. Previously I kept the boys outside then in to the C&C from November until it warmed up again. Our new rescued pig is not used to being handled so I have deceided to keep them inside so he gets used to us and becomes tamer.

Aw what beautiful little pigs Julie, lovely hairdo on the one on the right!

Thank you all for your help. A 4x2 cage it is then, and I've found all the parts on ebay which should make it a bit cheaper :)

I can't wait now! I should be able to put it together next weekend but I won't have the fleece ready by then, that's the next thing I need to find. Wouldn't mind making the liners myself.

Thanks that's peanut he's a Wee charmer.

Great news good luck they will love the extra space. I bought my cage liners ready made best price I found. but have purchased fleece off e bay I used a seller called "granny.hazel" her prices are good. Average £5.99 a metre for fleece. Obviously there's a small delivery charge too. Also I've actually met her at a hobby craft fair too and she's lovely. (She had her eBay name on stall display) lol.
