Whats up!?!?!

So my boys are currently living in 2x4 C&C cage. I was thinking about adding a 2x4 on top of it. My cage is all zip tied together but it also uses those black connectors. So if I add a level up I will need to get into the bottom layer for changing there fleece. My question isssss..... If I dropped the black connectors all together would the zip ties be able to hold there own? I am just worried about it collapsing in on its self. My cage is like:
_______
|_____|
|...|...|

if that makes sense. The bottom part is for storage, but then in my apartment when I go back to school (this is the cage with my fiance)

|______|
|__|_|_|
|.|.|.|..|

Also probably doesn't make sense. Underneath is also storage. It's just taller.

Anyways. Would that hold up?

If this doesn't make sense I will attempt pictures.

I tried just a 4 x 2 c&c held together with just cable ties and it really didn't work, it might have just been me though ;)

I hope someone else can come along with better help x

Mine is all cable tied and it's 2x4 2x4 2x2

middle section two centre grids are only cable tied to the top
th bottom 4 grids open this way too for cleaning

I've got a double decker too. We used all the connectors we had and added more zip ties for strength. I also put a little column ( strong cardboard tube from a roll of photographic paper ) in the centre of the bottom one to prevent any possible sagging. I leave a grid open for access and take a second grid out ( attached by three connectors ) for cleaning which is still a bit of a faff 'cos I've got short arms! I've added more zip ties to the grids surrounding the removable one so that the movement ( when I take it out ) doesn't pop the others out of their connectors. We will be building a wooden shelf type arrangement soonish ( I hope! Just got to get some scaffolding planks and plan them down) to put the C & Cs on so that they don't have to be connected to each other, hopefully that will make life easier!
