I have all the supplies to build a C+C cage (2 x 4 for each of the Guinea pigs) but in the shed when they are in a hutch, i always find slug slime on the walls, around the door and on the table where i store their food (their food is in a bag in an air tight container). They can't get into the guinea pigs cages at the moment as they are in a hutch and slugs can't fit through the mesh of the doors but ofc they would be able to get into a C+C cage. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can keep the slugs out, as my main worry in they will get into the hay/on their food then the guinea pig will eat it where the slug has been. Any ideas?
My other concern is the cold. The shed is insulated but the roof and door are quite flimsy, it does get pretty cold in there. The shed is more wind and rain proof rather then keeping the cold out. I plan to put fleecy items in there and lots of hay and also have a roof on half the cage and have a towel on it. I do have a little heater but it's not very good and it's old. How does everyone else keep their piggies warm in C+C cages in a shed?

I think you're going to find it really difficult to keep them warm in a C&C in an unheated garage.

grease bandage's around the legs will
keep them from getting to the doors

okay, thankyou. I've heard about putting copper around things you don't want slugs getting to (meant for plant pots) but I don't know how well that would work.
Thankyou for the suggesion, i'll look into it.

You can find shelving at a department store (5ft long is good for 2x4) and you can use that as a roof for your C&C cage or you can bring them inside over the winter and have the C&C as an indoor cage and the hutch as an outdoor. It's probably best to prevent them from getting cold anyways as it's unheated where you're keeping them.

Ahh okay, thankyou. Unfortunatly i cannot have them inside over winter as there is no space, not even for the hutch. But i can get a heater from somewhere if that's the next best thing.

hi ,zoboosheds website on you tube, was demonstrating a heater she uses in her shed that seemed good.from argos at about 25 pounds.maybe you could have a look and see what you think.c and c cages would be too cold, better for inside.i use snuggle heat pads,in shed hutches, you just pop them in microwave.vet uk had them for thirteen pounds.i put salt on floor where any slugs are outside..this is y personal preference, you may find other ideas better for you and your piggies.thanks Eileen

Ohh okay :) I'll have a look and see what i can find. That's a good idea! thanks, i like the idea of a heat pad. Okay, may be the best option really. Thankyou Eileen

errgghh not a fan of slugs...... good luck ! Lots of fleece and hay to keep them warm i would imagine ...

Hi I know this is a couple of weeks old but thought id reply! I know people on allotments grow extra plants that they can 'sacrifice' for the slugs to eat so maybe outside of the cages you can have some pots of calendula growing or even some odd bits of veg outside of the cages for the slugs to devour and deter them from trying to get to the food in the cages. Another thing gardeners do iss to leave small tubs with a cheep beer in the shed the slugs love this they will enter the tub of beer get drunk and drown but I bet they go out happy! If its not possible to get rid of the slugs completely its probably better to try and do some of tbe above as unfortunately most people use slug pellets which are also helping to destroy the hedgehog population in the uk when a hedghog eats a slug that ahas eaten the slug pellets.

Vaseline works best for me, anywhere you see a trail. I use it all round my pots and slugs haven't got past it yet!
