Hi, last week I adopted a 11 week old baby Guinea pig ( boar ) and he came with and 80cm cage. I instantly knew that that was too small for him so I decided to upgrade his cage.

Also I have been looking into c&c cages a lot and the only grids I can find are clear plastic ones ? Would they be ok to use ? How would I secure them together?

I know he doesn't have much room to move around in the cage he came in but he didn't even come out of his house. My mum has been looking after him all day when I was at school and she said she got him out of his house and have him his veggies but he wouldn't drink. I came home and managed to get him to drink and he did but how do I get him to come out of his house and get himself a drink and some hay when he needs it ? Thanks

He will do it himself in time. Its is likely he just needs to get used to you, but I'm certain it would help him alot to open up if he had a friend and some more room. Best of luck!

Ok, it's been 6 days now and I don't really mind he's not coming out as I understand he's scared but I'm just worried he's not drinking or eating enough.

I will probably order the c&c grids later tonight and getting him a friend is something I'm working on at the moment.

Thanks for you help!

If you rinse his veg & give them to your boar wet he should have enough fluid. If you have a plastic bottle, you could change it to glass, mine preferred it for some reason. I found mine were secret drinkers Don't worry if he's not drinking, he will.

Put his house next to the water bottle, hay and pellets. He will come out to eat when you're not looking.

You can also cover that part of the cage with a towel or blanket, so he feels safe when he's eating.

It's only been 6 days. Some pigs take months to start to trust you.

Ok thanks for that too I will be sure to give it a try

I have put his house by the water food and hay now so let's just hope for the best

Hello, I got my grids from wayfair they seemed to be the cheapest and came with the connectors needed, you could buy a c&c cage already built but I found it better to do my own :D you have already been given some really good advice regarding his food and water, all of which I agree with if his water isn't going down then you could also try a slice of cucumber as this has a high water content. He would benefit a great deal should you get him a friend to play with, you would be amazed how much piggies rely on company of their own kind not only for security but also for social interaction/play have you thought of finding a rescue local to yourself for a boar date?

my boy was on his own for about eighteen months (not with me) but when I put milo in with him he popcorned for the first time ever. I have put one of my smaller piggies in with my new girl who hid all the time and instantly she was wandering round the cage
