Hello all,

I've just bought a C&C cage off ebay, pretty my as an impulse buy and because I want my two pigs to have as much space as possible.

The panels were £35 for 20 and came with a bunch of cable ties and came with 24 connectors.

I bought the correx off ebay for £25 for 3 massive sheets. One could only do the 5x2 bit with not enough spare to make the loft.

The correx base was quite easy to make thanks to the guide at Cavey Cages http://www.guineapigcages.com/ . However I need some more connectors. This is my main reason for entering the forum. Does anyone know where more connectors can by found in the UK? I've tried Wicks, B&Q, Homebase and Argos. I've tried googling and all I can find are packets from the US. And delivery from the US is a little much for what they are.

Does anyone have a good source?

thanks

AJ

I have the cable ties. But I also have a wife who likes things looking just so! :-)

Thanks for your quick response though.

Thank you very much for the link. I have also found I need another two panels to be the base of the loft. So while my pack was sold on ebay with an illustration of a 5X2 cage with a loft, actually it wasn't. My fault really as the small print said the picture was for illustration purposes only!

For anyone wanting to make a C&C cage I would advise buying an interlocking shoe rack like the one I found on amazon. Cheaper than the set I bought on ebay and with more parts.

i use plastic coated panels from vonhaus on ebay, 17 quid for about 22 grids i think, 35.5 cm square

The cage is now up and the girls have moved in. Final cost:

£35 = 20 panels and fastenings - probablyasleep2009 - ebay
£37.95 = 3 Sheets of Correx - thealuminiumshop - ebay
£64 = x2 fleece cage linings from CandEcosies http://www.candecosies.co.uk/
£18 = ramp tunnel, also from CandEcosies.
£1 = Garden Cane bundle
£155.95 = total
and about 2 hours making it.

I found I could only by the correx in single sheets or 3 sheets so even though I only needed 1.5 it worked out cheaper to buy the 3. I made the ramp with some of the remaining correx stiffened with garden canes. I also used 5 canes to strengthen the floor of the loft.

An alternative would have been to go to http://www.candcguineapigcages.co.uk/cages-with-lofts/ where the same cage could have been bought for £79.99. So I only made a small saving on the cage and my correx cutting is perhaps not the neatest!

The actual cage is the easy bit. Be aware of how many panels you get though. My 20 piece set does not include enough for the floor of the loft for a 5x2 configuration which is why the correx of the loft rests on bamboo.

A big thank you to Elaine at CandEcosies who provided first class service.

Here is the Pig Palace just before Porkie and Pie moved in. We are now a week into their new home and we think they like it a lot. We had the largest Ferplast cage before and the difference is massive (about 3x).

Nice palace! I have a 2x4 with a loft. CandEcosies did my fleece liners too :) also Hammocky hammocks are great too. They volunteer and all the money they make goes to small animal rescues :) they do a " Complete piggy bedding" set. 2x 2x4 liners and a large Wash bag for £55.00. In a colour/design of your choice or just email them for diff sizes. We bought all our Chins stuff from there. I find these to be better quality as they have the bamboo towelling core.Wicks the urine away faster so it stays dryer longer! Plus it's comforting to know we are helping rescues.

This is my 2 boys palace. My first ever piggies so I wanted to give them the best ever. They came with a large indoor rabbit cage and I could have never, ever let them live in that :/ tmp_2014-03-13 11.27.041717803682.webp tmp_2014-03-13 11.27.33-295582075.webp tmp_2014-03-13 11.28.21-1104839108.webp tmp_2014-03-13 11.29.07-2047126544.webp tmp_2014-03-13 11.32.27-1312675788.webp

When I made my c&c unit, I put it together first then cable-tied the 4 sides. Because I was putting it on a wood base it is easier if you don't have the bottom connectors on so I took these off & fastened it to the wood base with P Clips. If you want to do it this way, let me know & I'll find the ebay link for you for the right size. You'll also need some screws to fasten them on with. You will then left with a few connectors which you'll be able to use elsewhere. I think you can buy them but they're very expensive, something like £4- £5 for just 4.

Could you post a pic. I was thinking about a base but was not sure how to go about it? Thanks :)
