I'm really annoyed with myself...

I spent lots of money buying a ton of grids and correx and slide binders and wooden support beams, the whole hog and spent 2 days putting it all together.

I built their 3 level 2x4 c&c cage and it was just incredibly unstable but i though it wouldn't really matter as the piggies don't weigh much and i only need access to get to their pigs and clean it out.

I also couldn't get the doors to function properly and found even with support beams my two uppers levels were bowing down.

Anyho i went to work the day after it was fine in the morning and when i got home the left end had started to break up (the grids had popped out the connectors and hanging in places with the cable ties) I had a long talk with my mum and it ended up where i put back together their cage below which is a 3 separate level 120cm as we wrote a pro's a con's list and the con's were far greater.

I give them floor time everyday because i think it is good their mental and physical stimulation but this whole c&c cage was really problematic and i don't have the space in my small council bedroom to not have them stacked and i just can't see a way to make the c&c setup work and now i feel like a failure, and i probably did something wrong or whatever but this seems like the best option for me and the piggies.

I hope you all understand cos i know i posted sounding really excited about their c&c cages but it just didn't work.

I was really really excited... and now I'm just deflated.

:(

I just thought I'd explain in-case you all wondered what had happened with it.

Don't worry, you're not the only one who has tried c and c cages, and not got on with them. We tried to build a couple of cages, but to us too it seemed very unstable, and we had problems keeping the grids together. It just didn't seem very secure compared with a bought indoor cage, so that is what we have stuck with. It was a shame though, as like you, I was very keen on the idea. It just didn't work in practice. I felt terrible about it though, so I understand where you're coming from! So many people swear by c and c cages, but I couldn't get it to work! I'm so sorry you've had such a disappointment.

Thank you Katherine,

It good to hear you had similar problems too though...

i thought it was going to be a great idea but i just couldn't get it to work in practice..

:)

You're not the only one, even after multiple 'MOT's' my C&C is still rather wobbly but I've secured it enough that it is isn't dangerous, however moving it virtually assures collapse! I actually really miss commercial cages, considering switching back when we move house as I think all the commotion will be the end of my dear C&C! At least you have a very large commercial cage though, they have plenty of room!

I tried too, loved the look but was just no good at building them at all!
the sides wouldn't stay up and the grids were a pain and then Sophie chewed the sides and back to the 140 they went!

Could you post some piccies of your C+C and maybe people could give you some pointers as to how to make it more stable.

Poor you! I've been struggling to attach hinge clips on the c&c grids that I bought to make an indoor folding run - so much that I'm contemplating not seeing it through any more!

I had a play with the connectors that came with the grids as I have been wondering about building a c&c cage too and so far haven't got a clue how on earth you'd go about putting a loft on or full another layer. I can't see how you attach the next layer up using the connectors. Have come to the conclusion that if I do move to a c&c cage it will be just a single storey one!

If you've just got 2 piggies then you could have just a single storey 2x4 c&c cage couldn't you if you wanted to? I know it wouldn't be as much space overall though so that may mean it's not what you want.

unfortunately I've taken it down so i have no piccies.

i have two pigs in each level so need it stacked.

thanks for your help though! :)

@MushiiPeas so sorry to hear your having troubles with the set up...maybe I can help! I attached some pics below for you to have a look at! It took me a good while to get my stuff going and together but I managed to set up the below 2x5 cage using the 14" grids and correx and cable ties...I did use 3 wood beams for extra support too. The connectors for the grids are a waste of time and money .... I myself flushed a good bit of money on those stupid things. They don't hold well, they break easy and they are so hard to attach! Just get the 4" and 8" cable ties ... They work good and support the weight with the wooden beams.

I made each cage separately with grid dividers for two and then cable tied them on top of each other. I did have to cut out some wire on the top of a grid on each end to fit the wood beam as I bought a 2"x2" which turned out to be too big. I then cable tied those to the grids too. Also even though I have a really long front consisting of 5 grids long ... I open the whole thing to access my pigs and clean the correx. I just have it holding up with binder clips on each end and cable tied the bottom of the grids so they just roll down open.

I'm seriously all achy and cut up but it turned out pretty good! Let me know if you have any questions...I'll be glad to help you!

@CaymanCavy that looks amazing!

I thought that my friend's C&C cage looked great but I was not confident with how sturdy it was - as I have small children and often have a house full of toddlers, I could not have a wobbly cage! I do like to see them though and I do think that they probably offer the best in terms of space.

I felt I wasted loads of ££ on c&c and never got on with them the only saving grace was I now put all the storage cubes in the kids room. I find it cheaper to buy an already made 2nd hand pet shop cage which is stacked if you do this you can also put it on wheel and move it around as needed. You can buy 120 ferplast 3 level cage which you can use as seperate cages xx

On a large scale c&c is well too expensive considering you can get a 2nd hand cage for next to nothing a c&c correx needs replacing yearly unless you buy the more exspensive wider mm ones

you need to do whats best for you and your piggies :) if c&c isn't or you then you shouldn't do it, I don't use c&c either because it just didn't work for me at the time with my piggies. don't be deflated about it I'm sure your piggies are still happy, and you never know, it may be an option in the future for you if you still want to use it :)
