Hi there, I am new to The Guinea Pig Forum and have a few questions. Any help would be so much appreciated :)

I am planning on adopting a couple of guinea pigs within the next month or so. I have had 3 in the past and I absolutely adore them. I was just wondering if I should get them from babies or adopt at an older age? Also, should I get 2 males or 2 females?

Also I would like to know which of you prefer to use just connectors for the C&C cage or just the zip ties? And or both. I am in the process of creating my C&C cage but am not sure if connectors or zip ties are better and safer for the piggies.

Thankyou so much guys :)

well if you ever decide on more i would go for two female, also if you have males they are more likely to have a few spats than females but never the less girls can too. however girls are always seem the better option when ppl want more than two. you could get a neturered male and a female that way you could have a lovely couple.

also with the age of the pigs resuces have all ages babies and older pigs so you just need to look for the pig for you not the age hehe (state were * live so ppl can help fine you piggies)
i would use both for the cage as the stronger the better :)

anyway hope this helped a little :)

I rebuilt our C&C effort last night - it's a 4x2 grid.

I went all out: -

The cage connectors that are internal to the cage (i.e. the spare connecting bits that were exposed)- I hacksawed them all off - thus meaning that when the Correx was fitted (and I didn't do a bad job considering I had nowhere to cut it....) it fitted very cleanly and without bumps - so the base is nice and stable for the piggies.

I cable tied pretty much every join on the base with thick cable ties, to keep it stable, then built the sides around it.

To finish - and before I put the Correx liner in- I stapled the cage to the table using 20mm staples from Wickes and a hammer mallethead

The cage ain't moving anywhere ;)

Took me a good 4 hours (including the trip to Wickes to get all the tools) but it was worth it - the cage looks great, is rock solid and will very easy to clean now that it is off the floor. (The table was £30 from Ikea!)

Hope this helps

EDIT: In fact, I bought cable ties last night because the 150 (!) I ordered from eBay haven't turned up yet. I can send you a packet if you are willing to pay the postage for them :) (50 of them)

I use both. Connectors on the corners and 2 cable ties inbetween to prevent gapping. (Connectors fly off everywhere depending on what type you have too).

Hubby built my cage and he used connectors and cable ties.

We have two boys who live outdoor, fortunately they both have
laid back personalities so bonding them has never been a problem. We have been very lucky with our males because Cookies 1st mate was also laid back so again no problems. It just all depends on their personality.

We also have three girls indoor and they are so entertaining! I myself prefer girls because you can add to them more easily and they have nice neat bottoms :(|)

I prefer the look of connectors and they give more sturdiness. Cable ties are annoying to use just on their own as they hinge very easily and it is a pain trying to hold a grid in the right place and zip them together rolleyes I would say use both as together they work great

Boys or girls whatever you decide really. I have myself two boys and they are great :) Very cute and cheeky. They shouldn't fight at all as long as they are bonded properly and have enough room to get away from eachother. The only time my two create a fuss is just after cleaning they mark their territory and hump at each other. No fighting, just reasserting the hierarchy. But after that they are fine together :)

The other thing about males is they usually need a bath (I do mine once a month) to clean their grease glands :)) But I heard some girls can have those too
