Hi again everybody.

Today my 30 grids arrived. I finished work quarter of an hour early so I could buy the correx and some extra cable ties.

Firstly I'd like to say a huge thanks to the staff at

www.signaexpress.co.uk

in Grangemouth. £20 for a piece of 4mm 8ft x 4ft correx. They left me use their shop to cut the correx to the sizes I wanted.

I managed to tightly squeeze everything into the car then it was home where the grids were waiting.

So without reading anything off I went.

Now, the learning points....

1. A 2 x 4 cage is HUGE. Even without a 2 x 1 loft...which I've added.

2. My wife hates it as it too big for our daughters room.

3. Never take measurements off eBay as gospel. Both levels were too big by about 5cm so I've loosened off the bases.

4. Cable ties are your friend. I've used them everywhere in the setup. If I was to do it again I'd probably not use the connectors...only the cable ties.

5. My 2 boys Charlie and Echo love it...as do I. They're going mental as I type....and I mean MENTAL! They haven't stopped running in circles or popcorning for the last 2 hours. They look cream crackered!

I used a spare piece of correx to make the ramp but I didn't like the look of it - to long and not very high at the sides. I had a tube previously which I've now put around the correx ramp...and after a bit of encouragement both boys are using it easily.

Overall I'm delighted....Mrs C not so much.

A 2x4 with a 2x1 lift for less than £48. Well chuffed.

Photos to follow.

Thanks everyone for your help with this!

How exciting , I have just ordered 46 grids and some correx :yahoo:
I was looking at th 2 x 5 but then got out my measure and realised how huge it was , can't wait to see your new creation ,
I figured I would make a stand for a 2 x 4 , I fancy a little curtain around the bottom as a hideaway for food etc
So glad your boys love it so rewarding!

Thanks.

I was thinking about the stand too. Maybe building correx drawers to go underneath.

However, since seeing the size of 2x4 it'd be too big. My daughters room is a reasonable size but I've got to concede, it defo would take over the room.

looks great.. thats the size i am building... when my stuff arrives....

After much discussion over the weekend Mrs C has allowed the new C&C to stay in little Miss C's room. I'm so glad as little Miss C was distraught at the thought of having to dismantle the new house and put Charlie and Echo back in a wee tiny small depressing dark lonely cage. However fear not as everything has come good.

It was mainly the smell and size of the C&C that was putting Mrs C off. After a little bit of moving here and there the size issue wasn't so much a problem. As to the smell, I've now followed the advice given here by lots of members - puppy pads, layer of towel, then fleece on top. It has worked wonders and has won Mrs C over!

Once again, thanks everyone for your help and advice. I've 2 little happy boys still popcorning away, and a little girl who would popcorn with them if she could!
