hi all,
We are getting a couple of guinea pigs and I am going to use the mesh cubes. Can you get away with not needing a mesh base or is this needed for rigidity? Trying to work out numbers as I would like to put a loft in as well.
Cheers, Johnty
Ps the base would then be covered with coroplast or similar

If you're using correx or something similar and/or keeping it on the floor or a stand that will hold the whole cage then you won't need grids under it. The only time you would need grids for rigidity would be if the cage is going to have a bit of an overhang from the stand or if you're building the stand from the grids.

If you want added stability for a loft without using extra grids, you can always cable tie in cut-to-size aluminium rods to support a correx/coroplast tray.

thanks both, just need to source the correct/coroplast

For relatively small amounts, it never hurts to ask around local sign makers; they can also cut it to size - prices can vary between shops, but you also don't have to pay for the major courier cost that you when ordering over the internet.

Personally I prefer the safety of a base, if you watch this video you will see why :

Good video with instructions on how to build under storage too :
