Hi...

I’ve had Mickey and Donald for about 6 weeks now and they are settling in really well. I am concerned though that the cage they are in is a little too small.... it’s a ferplast and is 100cm long... they get out daily for floor time and have a really large outdoor run on my decking. But I can’t help but think I should get them a c and c cage with a loft. I am looking at these currently and the one that would fit best in my living room is the 2x3 cage with a loft. I would appreciate any advice on this as I want the best for my pigs but as the cages are expensive I want to make sure I am buying he right product. Thanks guys

It sounds like your piggies have a lot of opportunity to run about as it is, but maybe for future cold weather you may want to consider that they may not be able to use the run on your decking. If you did decide to built a c&c cage, For a 2x3 with a 1x2 loft you would need about 24(ish) grids. On Amazon I have found a storage shelf unit including 34 grids for £24.99. However you can get 24 grid option for £18.99, it depends how you want to adapt the cage and make it your own. These are the grids I have used and have a 2x4 cage with storage underneath. I then struggled to find correx but ended up using a protective floor sheet from wickes for only £3. In total you would be spending less than a conventional cage.
Below I have linked the two items I've mentioned, I hope this helps 😊

Hi thanks for the reply. Yes hey do get out a lot but this won’t always be the case... I think I will invest in some c and c grids and make my own. Are fleece liners the best option?

I would say fleece is the best option, but opinions may differ, my guineas are on fleece but they are not fancily stitched, all Ive done is place puppy training pads as a first layer, then towels, then the fleece blanket over the top and tucked round and under the sides of the 'correx' base. The issue with this is the absorbent layer isn't reuseable but it's just one way that Ive got around the issue of not being able to stitch 😂 All my fleece Ive purchased has been from discount stores like family bargains and poundworld (now it's shutting I got some bargain fleece🎉) and occasionally places like the Range. But fleece is available in so many places 😊 Then just research how to wick the fleece if you aren't famailiar with it already. Hope this helps you ☺️

I’m afraid 100cm is too small for two guinea pigs. And is there any way you could stretch to 2x4 and maybe have it in another room, or rearrange your living room? It’s the recommended size in terms of c&c for two. Bear in mind boys need more space than girls, they’re more territorial 🙄 or you could get a Midwest, they seem quite popular as well.

I would agree that 3x2, even with a loft is too small. Once they start puberty they’ll need space to get away from each other to help prevent fighting, which may happen anyway. The bigger the better and loft spaces do not count towards the total area of the cage. C and C are very flexible so you could go into an alcove or round a corner: mine is in an L shape in the corner of a room.

If you can fit a 2x4 that would be better than one with a loft as it gives them more space to run around

If a 2x4 is a bit of a tight squeeze, then would an ‘L’ shape setup be doable? Mickey and Donald are super cute!:drool:

I’ve just looked at the midwestern cage which seems great too... does anyone have one of these? This looks like a good size.

I think 2x4 should be ok. I’m quite tempted by the midwestern as it comes with inlay and a little cheaper than c and c.

Great :) I have seen the Midwest setup on here a few times a fellow piggy slaves rave about them

Well I’m placing my order now. It feels great to know they will be in more space and able to run freely in the days when I am working etc. Who knew that Guineas pigs were so addictive?! I’m totally smitten with these two!
