I have a 2x5 c and c with 2x2 loft for 3 pigs. They live indoors all year round. They love being patted and hand fed but not picked up. As I can't reach them when they run under their loft I only remove them for vet visits which is half an hour of grabbing and stress for all. I'd like them to have more exercise and be tamer and have an idea about removing the stand on their cage and fitting a gate so they can step out the cage themselves, and maybe we'd be sitting on the carpet with parsley and they'd come sit on us, get more running space etc. I seem to remember floor level c and c cages not being considered good, why is that? I can protect them from drafts and have no dogs, toddlers etc.
Thanks.

I have a c&c on the floor with a doorway I can open so they can go in and out. I lift my piggies out of their cages in a small pet carrier, it is a safer way to do it and avoids the chasing and the stress it can cause. I taught them to step into the carrier by putting a bit of veg in it to start with and making sure their destination always involves food - to the lawn - floor time with grass time - play pen with grass time etc.

This is also a good way to pick them up to start with

The only reason my c and c cages are on tables is because of my own joints and not because of the piggies. It’s much easier to let them have free ranging time if they are on the floor and can let themselves out when you open the cage side up.

My C&C is on the floor, its a 5x5x2 L-shape with a loft so no chance it would fit on a table!

Thank you, I'm glad to get that info before doing a major construction job on the c and c!

Thank you, I've tried all those things and the piggies got savvy but haven't added in the destination always involving food. Sounds a great plan.
