I am building an 8 x 2 c and c cage for lovely Jingle and Mistletoe.

I have cable tied all the grids together and find that they are not solid at all. I have ordered correx. Will that be enough to hold it steady? Dont have any connectors.

It is on two 150cm tables. Help.

@flowerfairy When you say "not solid" do you mean that it doesn't stay in the rectangle shape?

If you have spare grids you could add a bottom to it, to give it some structure.

Sometimes if you use multiple cable ties on each pair of grids and pull it really tight you can get it to stay in place. Or if you have two you could add two across the bottom in the middle to hold it together.

The correx will help it stay in shape as it will hold the corners in place so it won't be able to move around so much.

It doesnt stay in a rectangle shape at all and the long front side is totally mobile. I have put some grids on the bottom and they help. The main problem is the snake like moving front wall of grids.

I don't know if you can see them but along the bottom of my cage that is on top of a table my hubby screwed a few screws into the table to stop the grids sliding about and hold them against the correx. I find it works well.

Have you cable tied all the grids together, including the floor ones? Unfortunately, I don't have any spare connectors, as all are being used in my cage at the moment.

This might sound like a bit of an expensive solution, but if you are really desperate for connectors, you could buy some of those plastic grids and make a play pen for your guinea pigs or hamsters like seen in this tutorial Stylish playpen - Hamster Central which only requires cable ties, and then use the remaining connectors for the cage.

I hope Jingle and Mistletoe enjoy their new cage :).

Thankyou flutterby. That sounds like a resonably simple solution.

Good plan chesca will research connectors and see how the price of those compares. The hamsters would be impressed!

You should be able to find the c&c connectors on eBay and Amazon. I have had to purchase extra in the past too.

I have only seen them for 4.95 for four connectors ... Ha just used chescas great idea and ordered a white shoe rack from argos with 30 connectors.

It was 32 pounds for 30 connectors from grendle but 17.99 for the shoe rack. Yey.

Must not go anywhere that sells guinea pigs with this newly expanded space.

So you've managed to save money and get a new play pen :)! Glad that worked out :).

I hope we get to see some photos of the new cage (and the play pen, no matter which species gets to use ;))

I use the connectors and then zip ties stabilize everything a bit more. Any C and C cage will be a bit wobbly, because that's the nature of the grid system.

Dont worry Chesca I will defo post pics when its done (when).

SPR, I had no idea that c and c cages were known to be wobbly ... humph.

Guinea Mum ... cable tying wood to the bottom of the grids sounds like an excellent and reasonably easy idea. Thank you.

You want connectors? I give you connectors.... x pm me
