Hi guys,

I have ordered myself c and c cages for my piggies and want to put it in my living room as they will get more human contact other than my bedroom as that’s quietest room in the house currently

I have a small dachshund cross jack russell dog 3 years old he very small as he miniature if I was to use the c and c grids to make a stand would that be sturdy enough to prevent him knocking the cage down ?

I'm not sure. I would use a lot of cable ties to secure it and please also make sure it has a lid of some fashion. There is Jack Russell in his blood so he will have a natural instinct to kill the piggies. Please make sure he is never in the room alone with them and it might also be worth having a plan B for the piggies as it could be very stressful for your dog if he is unable to get used to them because his instincts are constantly telling him to get them.

Yes I’m aware I just find they are on there own a lot in my bedroom my dog isn’t allowed in bedrooms so they are safe in there and I was going to use a lid anyway

Personally, If I had dogs and guinea pigs, I'd be looking at keeping them a wooden hutch .

I have to say that I would not take the risk of having guinea pigs in a C&C in the same room as your dog, given it's breed.
I used ot have my C&C's on a stand and although they were fairly stable, I don't feel they would be able to stop a small and determined dog.

One possible solution would be to have the cage up on a table (I use a "vangsta' from Ikea which fits a 5 x 2 perfectly) and well away from chairs so there is simply no chance of your dog getting to it.
The other thing to do would be to leave them in your bedroom, as although they are less in the center of things there, at least you know they are safe.

I have two terrier mix dogs that have a high prey drive. I have my piggies cage on a long table and we keep baby gates up to keep them out of the pigs’ room. They are both older and small so they can’t jump the gates. You can never be too careful with dogs who were basically bred to be rodent hunters.

Has he seen your pigs before? And is he interested in the smell? I understand other members worry over the breed, and obviously all dogs are naturally predators, but my dog is a patterdale terrier, and she's not even interested in my piggies. I think it largely depends on the dog. If he's grown up around them he'd most likely be fine, but all dogs Ive had visit my home have been intent on feasting on my boys, as they haven't been brought up around piggies where my dog has. In terms of dogs and prey species, I do think it relys on if the dog has been around small animals since a young age, personally.

I’m only considering and asking advice atm, I bought the c and c cages purely as after researching realised they needed more space now I can fit that in my bedroom no problem however I have concerns that my piggies won’t see much human contact unless I’m in my room, Also when I’m with piggies feeding etc my dog wines wondering what smell is and the noises

i have a cat.my cages in the lounge are 5 feet x2 1/2 feet, sturdy commercial cage with a cage top.it is a Liberta 150cm cage, from website pet planet.if you are having a c and c cage i would highly recommend you purchase a lid.reinforce all grids with two cable ties.

My parents got my dog when the first moved in together and I lived with her for a really long time until she passed away when she was 18 yrs. She was a full bred jack russell terrier. She killed everything except dogs and cats. My mom has told me many stories of her killing animals in their backyard. If I were you, I wouldn't take any risks with a jack russell. We have 2 terrier mix dogs now, and one who is half jack russell are they're super prey driven. My pigs live upstairs and the dogs don't go up there, but if they are anywhere near my pigs, they'll try to kill them.
