Hey everybody,
So yesterday I *tried* to put my two boars together and one of them did this thing with thier butt. I can only describe it as a butt throw. He threw his butt sideways at the other pig with his body at a ‘C’ angle.

I’ve tried to research this bahavior but all I got was pee spraying, “ a dominance behavior usually done by sows” but HE wasn’t spraying pee. It was a butt throw as described. Anybody know what he was trying to do. I’ve summed it up as dominance behavior but don’t know if this is a bad sign for my two boars. Maybe he was trying to claim the other pig as his?

Anybody know?

I don't know what it's called, but I call it 'squaring up' to the other piggy. He's basically making himself look as big as possible to show the other piggy that he's not to be messed with. It's all part of the dominance dance. If it didn't result in lunging or fighting, just take it for what it is. I've not much experience of bonding, as my one and only attempt was a spectacular fail, but I have seen my bonded trio show this behaviour when they're having a hormone spike. Hope it helps., and good luck x

Here are some bonding/domincance behaviours explained. Anyway, whatever it is, it is in the mild to medium range, which you have to tolerate.

Hey my two boars do this a lot! I like your description as I have tried to google this particular move too! My two are 1yr 5 months old and do this a lot whenever I get them out for floor time. They seem to bicker worse when they are away from their cage possibly cause they are trying to mark new territories as theirs ( they seem to let off a pungent smell at the same time! ) and then it settles down a bit when they go back in their cage although they never seem to be best buddies!
