Hiya,

Our 2 year old piggy Oscar had a dodgy tummy on New Years Eve and he hadn’t pooped for a few hours. We ending up giving him a butt bath just at midnight chimed- lovely! Anyways, we squeezed a poop out and he got back to pooping normally again. Acting normally, eating normally etc. He was mostly just annoyed about all the fuss.

Fast forward a few weeks, he’s still having some butt troubles where he seems to just half push poops out. They eventually fall out when he’s moving around and the poops look normal. We tried every other day to look for impaction but downstairs is all clear. We’ve tried a change of diet and removed various veggies but still no change. No weight loss at all. He’s a big boy at 1400g.

We’re not sure what else it could be?! Could it just be that he’s lazy / overweight and we’re overthinking this? Been avoiding the vets as he seems to be acting completely normal in every other sense, and vet trips really stress him out. What do you guys think?

Also sorry TMI on the photo… his grease gland needs a clean too. Boys eh?! :xd:

Hi

The problem is pretty common with boars and their larger poos due to the extended anal sac between the descended testicles whereas the exit in sows is straight.

It is nothing to worry about as this is NOT impaction where a clump of soft unstructured redigested poos will build up in the anal sac due to gradually weaking muscles at the back end (affects about 1 in 10 aging boars). Even my middle-aged and older neutered boars have very often a poo stuck in their bum when I pick them up but it will come out very easily and be pushed out by any poos behind when a new delivery ready for drop arrives. ;)
