😑 Got woken up at 4am this morning to my partner asking "Does Mortys foot look odd?" sure enough it did so had to wait till 9am to contact my vet to tell them I think poor Morts got bumblefoot, thankfully he's already on inflacam for spondylosis and osteoarthritis and I'm also lucky enough to have 100ml baytril due to owning rats, so I've giving green light to give him antibiotics, just need to pick up calpol tomorrow as I just chucked out a bottle few weeks back, just cleaned his foot and the scab came off and pus has been cleaned out as
he's a good boy. He's weighs 1560g and is lazy as hell and ideas on toys to get this potato moving?

Outch! That looks sore!

Unfortunately, bumblefoot can be a problem with guinea pigs with limited mobility that tend to sit in one spot and their own excrement more and that have other underlying issues.

You may find the practical tips in these guides here helpful:
- Looking after guinea pigs with limited or no mobility (what to look out for in the piggies that don't move or very little)
- Weight Monitoring and Management (see chapter V for tips on getting piggies to move around a bit more)

All the best.

Yeah he does sit in several spots, I tend to be on top of cage cleaning so his floor is not damp and his hideys are always clean and dry. He's just so lazy for young pig.

There may an underlying issue and his 'laziness' is the result of it. Has he has his heart checked?

He had an xray done to check for bladder stones and calculi as my last pig died from it but all they saw was he has spondylosis and osteoarthritis which he's being treated for with inflacam and K-laser therapy.

This will of course impact on his movement, as it is painful. Poor chap! :(

Wondering if I should change the bedding over from pureflake extra woodshavings to the guinea dad liners I have, if that would help reduce the chance of this happening again.

Vet bed is very good bedding for piggies with mobility, staying in one position issues it will need, towels or puppy pads under it to absorb the urine.
Thank you. I shall purchase some for him. He's going to think it's his bday.

Poor guy! One of mine also had bumblefoot when she was older... she just stopped moving around as much and was a big pig. We found she did well with betadine soaks/ointment and antibiotics from the vet.

Poor piggy that looks so sore. Hope it heals quickly. Maybe he needs a higher does of pain killer for his other issues and he would then move a bit more?

He's on a good dose, 0.4ml of Inflacam x2 aday, 0.62ml calpol x2, as well as k-laser therapy twice a week. He's always been a lasy boy only time he runs is when he can hear the fridge being opened.

Typical piggy. Bless him.
