Hi
We took one of our dear boars to the vets yesterday as he had a lost some weight and looked like he had bumble foot, the vet gave us antibiotics and some metacam. She said to change the bedding to something softer as currently on shavings, but for the next week we need to change daily so we keep it extra clean. Has anyone got any ideas what we could use? We have our pigs inside and have been thinking about fleece for a while but obviously for the next 7 days I can’t really wash it everyday!
He’s a rescue so we are guessing at least 4, will he be ok? Feel really sorry for him, but he is still eating and drinking!

I’m sorry to hear this.

Fleece or vetbed is a good idea for piggies with bumblefoot. You can then use smaller pieces in high traffic areas which can be removed and washed daily (or multiple times a day can sometimes be necessary in bumblefoot cases) without having to change the entire cage.

Keep up with daily weight checks while he is unwell and losing weight. Step in with either syringe feeding or offering a bowl of critical care as a top up if he is still eating to stop weight loss

Thanks so much for your quick reply! What do I do with regards to hay? I usually pile it in as they like to hide in it, obviously with fleece or vet bed it will get a bit messy!

I use rewashable puppy pads, towels and small pieces of fleece for mine.

Thanks so much for your reply, do you hat trays for the hay?

A hay tray is absolutely fine. It means they can still get inside the hay as they like and are used to, but it is more contained.
Using something higher sided and cutting some doorways into it may also be a possibility - it will obviously help contain more of the hay if the sides are higher.
No matter what you do though you are going to get some hay on the fleece - there is little avoiding it!
A rubber brush can really help get the hay off.

Ours still gets messy this is the hay area this morning haha its just the guinea pig way I think

Should be ok today as my hubby managed to order them to come later today 😃 I have some vet bed that I will cut up and use in the wee areas. Thanks all so much for your help I’m hoping our dear boy will get better soon he’s such a sweetheart and taking his medication like a trouper!

Sorry just showing my husband your set up to show him how you use the puppy pads and he’s asked what you use as your base (the blue visible at the side) as he said it looks better than our base which is just correx?

Hi! It's a cage I got from amazon which comes with the base. I'll find it.

This one.
