Porky Pig

I've observed that my piggy does a little "bum rub" - it happens sometimes after he pees/poops; or when I pop him back into his cage; or after I've refreshed his bedding/toilet area.

It's a quick action involving rubbing his bum on the ground (fleece).

Is this a way of him "marking" his ground or a sign of something more sinister? I really hope it's the former!

No, you have figured it out - he is scent marking! Boars do it more than girls, but even they contribute to the "tribe" address!

oh wow - very interesting! He's a very dominant pig, I think, fiesty, nippy and assertive. He'll even "mark" his hay especially when it's fresh - as if to say "Mine, all mine!" :))

I'm relieved it's not worms!
thanks for your response.

I didn't know this either. Chocolate and Eyebrows did this all over my carpet! I was conisdering worming them anyway because they have been eating grass from outside.

Vicky hit the nail on the head, totally scent marking. My two sows never do this and my boar is constantly marking, every time I stick my hand in his cage to clean or give him food or change out his towels/socks that he lays on, he starts marking. rolleyes

Harry has been doing this too since we introduced him to the new girls, he does it then skulks around after as if to say 'Who de man? iiiiiiiiiiiii de man' Bless his little cotton socks!
