I just wondered if there is a more up to date guide for bum baths and grease glands than the boar bits one pinned here? That's from 2016 and still mentions swarfega and washing up liquid which I wouldnt use anyway but it seems to have caused a bit of controversy when @Claire W mentioned it a few months back...
Tomorrow I am going to attempt spring bum baths for Jezzy floofy wee pants who sits in her own wee until her feet get a bit sore, and for Lady Piggle who has a crusty brownish yellow rear end and a bit of urine scald after being treated a UTI last week and I'm a bit concerned there is also some brown yuck around her grease gland... I have my gorgeous guineas shampoo, a nice big rubber bucket for a bath, gorgeous guineas foot ointment for Jezzy's feet afterwards... I have some olive oil I can rub on Piggle's grease gland if needed... just looking for a bit of guidance as I've only done 1 bum bath before and it went well but Jezzy floof took 2 days to fully dry out so I've put off doing another until spring! Piggle really needs one though she's looking very crusty, and Jezzy has probably needed one for a while but I've just been wiping her feet clean and putting perfect paws ointment or vaseline on them until the weather got warm enough...

i have found with my boars ingrained waxy grease gland ,that the only product that will thoroughly erase the grease is swarfega.it maybe not the in thing to use ,but it is the only product i will use.change is good, but need to monitor, and not just change for the sake of change.the article Clare has written is excellent !

I find coconut oil works on Spike and Rusty's grease glands but Swarfega is the only thing that works on Peanut. I only clean grease glands as absolutely necessary so I haven't cleaned the younger 3 yet.
Claire's article is excellent, I thought I had seen it before but couldn't find it earlier when I looked for pigglepuggle.

I used coconut oil the first time I washed the boys’ grease glands. But there was still some left. I bought some shampoo after the fact and will use it next time I wash them. They’re crusty again.

Well we didnt bath Jezzy floof today as the weather is suddenly cold again but when I checked Piggle's rear end there was definitely brownish yellow gunk caked around her grease gland that was very sore when I touched it, so I got her to sit on puggy daddy's shoulder while I rubbed olive oil into the nasty crud, then we gave her a bum bath!
Not sure its 100% better because there was some fairly hard packed gunk, but now its more broken up flaky bits I could gently pull and comb off. She loved the bath bit, and tried to get back in when we lifted her out!
Here's Piggle in the bath bucket:

And here's Piggle in a towel afterwards:

I think we might need to repeat this in a couple of weeks now I can see which bit needs the oil but she seemed fine with it mostly and was munching coriander and enjoying a cuddle straight afterwards!
