We currently have our four piggies in a ferplast casita 120 which is connected by ramps to a 1m square run and kept indoors (though they do get grass time). They are brilliant with ramps and of course love the space. However we are getting our utility room redone, and want to build them a new cage setup within their own partitioned room within the utility room, so we can keep the mess contained! We want to make good use of space so are planning on making something like this for them:

We want it to be wide enough so we can fit their strawberry fleece houses in and to give them plenty of space. I know several people on these forums have adapted shelving from Ikea etc. to make something similar and wondered if you have any suggestions on a unit to adapt from. All the ones I find on home furniture sites are around 40cm deep, which is just not enough for me. As a minimum I want it to be 60cm / 2ft deep and then about 180cm wide / 6 ft. Maybe the best bet is to get something custom made from scratch, but before I explored that option I wanted to see if anyone has any shelving unit suggestions I could start from.

Hi @Gimz - did you find anything suitable in the end? I've been thinking about making something similar for our piggies. We've got an old cabinet that I had thought might be converted, but it's only 40cm deep and like you I don't think that is quite enough.

Could you put two shelf units together and take off the back of the front one?
