Hello,we're soon hoping to adopt two pigs (first time for us). I need some advice on cage building...

I've been building a cage and think I'm nearly finished. We had planned to use correx but unfortunately it's not available in a size big enough to fill the cage I've built so I've gone with lino instead.

As you can see, the lino is currently supported by clothes pegs, it's not as rigid as correx so needs support for the back walls (12") or they'll fall over. I've thought of the following solutions to this problem, let me know if they're any good.

  1. Leave it as is, supported by clothes pegs
  2. Use heavy duty paperclips
  3. Make holes in the lino, thread thick wire through and tie to the grids (I'd rather not damage the lino ideally though)

Another problem I've got is holes in the corners, my idea to solve this is to use silicon sealant. Would that be a good solution?

Another solution I just thought of is supergluing the lino to the grids, not sure how well it would hold though.

Hi, Welcome to the forum :)
Your cage looks great - I'm no expert but think it may be worth trying your setup with the clothespegs there to hold the lino as you suggested.
I have a 3 storey C&C cage ( 7 foot by 28inches) but have the correx inside so dont really have lino experience
I have used duct tape to seal any slits / holes - not sure about silicon selant (would definately seal better) although there is one that can be used in aquariums..... but I dont know if either is ok or not for piggies
Hope someone else can advise

From what I've read silicone is pretty safe (non-toxic) for both humans and animals.

With the pegs, is it just a case of trial and error? I.e. Try with pegs then if there's a problem try with something else? I'd quite like to use paperclips as they'd be neater.

I'm probably being overly cautious, it's just that we have to have a home visit and I want it to go well.

I would stick to pegs, so you are free to make changes later if necessary.

How big are the holes in the corners? Silicon sounds fine.

How about putting holes in it and using cable ties?

That was one of my ideas, except using wire instead of cable ties. I don't really want to damage the lino though so that if I ever have to reshape it I have the whole intact area to work with.

Very small, pea sized, it's just where the joins meet.

Hello and welcome to the forum! It's a lovely place with so much advice on piggies!

Your cage looks fab so far, i also think keep the pegs to begin with and as long as the silicon is safe for piggies it sounds good to me! When's your home check? Glad to hear you're rescuing piggies in need xx>>>

Ps, your avatar did make me chuckle!

That cage is certainly big enough to make any rescue happy! :))
