Hi everyone,

Just wondering how often you brush your pigs and cut their nail?

Mine are short haired so I don’t brush at all. I cut a little off their nails maybe every month... if they’re quite long then I’ll probably cut off twice a month.

Hi everyone,

Short hair and especially smooth coated guinea pigs don't need brushing except with those that are strong seasonal moulters - but even there, your hands will be sufficient.
Long-haired guinea pigs you brush weekly or daily depending on the coat. As the majority is not really happy with brushing, a judicious haircut (and especially a short summer haircut to free them from lugging around the equivalent of a ski suit on a tropical beach) will go a long way of keeping tangles and mats under control.

Nail cutting again depends; nails grow at different rates at different ages. With babies you have to actually wait until the baby nails start growing and only cut off the sharp tip about 1 mm once it is safe so. Most people cut between every 2-4 weeks once the nails grow at a steady pace. they grow fastest at around 1 year but are noticeably slower and often much more twisty, curly or thick in older piggies. You generally work out whether you are better with clippers or pet nail scissors.
