I was hoping someone could give me a recommendation on a good brush or way of brushing debris off fleece before putting it in the washing machine. Does a lint brush work?

Also, I currently use Tesco non bio washing liquid and Dettol antibacterial laundry wash, and whilst I think my fleeces come out smelling lovely, I'm aware that the perfume might be quite strong for their wee noses! Can anyone recommend me a good unperfumed antibacterial wash and non bio please? I'm looking for one that can be added to straight into the washing machine, not one that involves pre-soaking in a separate container. Thank you!

I use Dettol Antibacterial for Sensitive Skins. My 3 guinea pigs have had no issues with me using that.
In the past I have also used Zoflora which has a strong fragrance. They had no issues with that either! But to be on safe side I now just use Dettol Antibac Sensitive.
I use a normal hand held brush to knock most of the hay etc off fleece and vet bed. This goes into the guinea pig run which has the soiled puppy nappies and newspaper in I just roll everything up and put it all in a cheap black rubbish back..
I then have another go with the brush on the fleece bedding in the kitchen to get as much hay off as I can prior to washing. The kitchen floor is tiled so all I have to do is sweep up the mess.
I will watch for any other replies that show an easier way!

hi,i use a carpet rubber brush and brush hay and hair in the garden .use a horse wash bag to place piggie washing in,so does not block filter in the washing machine.i use halo washing liquid that has a antibacterial agent in the liquid,it is non bio,can be used on babies washing.I also use vanish powder in my wash.ive used dettol bacterial fluid in the softner draw.you can always wash items at 60 degree heat wash, this will usually kill all the bacteria etc.though this can shrink the fleece,i always ask that my liners are made bigger to allow for shrinkage.

I use aldi non bio wash powder and a slosh of white vinegar.. fleeces always come out clean and fresh and dont smell of vinegar! As for brushing the hay off.. i shake shake then shake again outside... i dont get much hay on the fleeces to be honest but hair - drives me insane.. no matter how hard i shake/bash it cant get them all off !

A mini brush and pan works very well for me. It's about 6" or 150mm wide. I hold the fleece up in the pen and brush the rubish down into the pen and then the pen can be swept with it too. The pan never gets used but the brush is indispensable.

I use a shower squegee to get hay etc off. Then Halo for washing (anti fungal as well as anti bacterial) and white vinegar to rinse. I always put the fleece on an extra rinse cycle just in case.

The BEST brush for sweeping fleece is a rubber one. Lakeland do a handheld rubber brush for £4.99. I love my rubber brush!

I have a brush like this one and I like to use it when I peg the fleece cage liners on the line. And I sweep the hairs off. I feel it works better when the brush is damp. I wash my liners in a horse wash bag, with non bio detergent and white vinegar In The softener drawer.

White vinegar is God, makes the fleece feel lovely and soft as well as fresh. I've also used Zorflora but the smell doesn't stay on it long enough once it goes back into rotation lol.

I've lost my trusted rubber curry comb thing that was the destroyer of hairy fleece, a moment of silence for the fallen brush and my broken dreams.

Hhhmmm i have tried many methods for getting the hair off the fleece and have admitted defeat to be honest. I now give it a good shake and a bash outside and use a horsewear bag to catch the worst in the machine. When the fleece is dry i give it another shake outside to get a bit more off. Hay I don't find a problem as that shakes or brushes off fairly easily.

I use Halo sports wash which is non bio. And some vinegar in the softener draw. Also put it on an extra rinse. I wash at 60 (started as per fleece instructions washing at 30 but found out from here that is no hot enough plus it was starting to smell) It has shrunk my liners a little bit though.

Thank you for all your advice. Should I be putting the white wine vinegar in the softener drawer?! I've been putting it into the drum during the wash cycle!

I use a dustpan and brush, followed by a lint roller. As for the smell, I use Ecover and white vinegar (vinegar in the softener drawer). Seems to work.

I put it in the softener draw, otherwise I think it would just get washed out with the detergent. I think the vinegar is to help with smells more than anything? I may be totally wrong though!

Mine get a good shake and then are put in a big pet wash bag I got from viovet, I then wash with surcare. I actually manage to get two liners into the pet wash bag. When they are done washing, they are taken out of the bag in the garden and shook again :)
