Hi everyone, I noticed this afternoon that one of my guinea pig's back legs has turned a strange brownish colour
I've tried to do some research into what I could be but can't seem to find anything similar online! Does anyone have any ideas?

His foot seems to be fine and he's still running around as normal (got zoomies as I speak haha). Still has a big appetite. Whatever it is on his leg doesn't seem to be bothering him one bit...just concerned incase its something to worry about.

Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum. Once you have the words New Born Pup under your username then you will be able to post a picture. 👍🏻

You know your piggy best, but are you sure it's suddenly appeared, and hasn't been there since birth? Many piggies have different coloured patches of skin like that, including on their feet.
Obviously if anything changes which causes you to worry, take him to a vet. :)

To me it just looks like an area of darker pigmentation... pigs can have patches of darker pigment on their skin, just like they can on their fur. My agouti piggie has a back foot that is the same, but in her case she has a dark area on her heel and then a pink area above it (she has brown and cream in her fur and I'm betting all her skin is similarly mottled under her coat.)

It just looks like skin pigmentation to me also. Two of my boys have multi coloured feet.

As piggies mature their skin pigmentation can change. That looks like a naturally darker skin patch to me. But I’m no vet. If it’sa sudden change out the texture or integrity of the skin has changed then maybe a vet check would be an idea. But at this moment it looks from the photo to be just a darker skin patch

Does that bit of skin feel different or warmer? I agree that it looks like pigment. How old is your pig and how long have you had him? It might be that you have only recently been able to get a good look and didn't notice it before. Obviously if you are concerned get a vet check. They wouldn't judge you for it and it does no harm to get the piggies a full MOT.
