My 6 month old male guinea had a brown mark on the top of his nose. It wiped off with damp cotton wool yesterday with no indication from him it was sore but the patch does seem to be bald. The brown crust has come back this morning, could this be a fungal infection? There’s no redness and doesn’t seem to be a graze and it isn’t sore?

If he was my piggy I'd take him to the vet just to check it isn't anything nasty. A vet would rather see an anxious owner who is worried about their piggy as there may be something wrong than a guinea pig with an owner who has left it too late.

:agr:
Please do have your piggy seen by a vet for diagnosis and any necessary treatment.

I would also vote for a vet trip to be sure - but in addition perhaps have a look at his enclosure/hutch.
If it's the top of the nose could he be shoving his nose under a grid or barrier - to see if he can get through? If he's doing this regularly he might have rubbed some fur away and perhaps the mark is wood-stain or something like that?!

Hi!

Without any pictures and any hands-on access, it is impossible for us to say what exactly is going on.

Piggies stick their noses in many places; things can dry in the hair and rip them off when dried scab comes off.

Please see a vet if the bald patch is getting larger and especially if the skin surface is developing a white crust over the coming days (fungal).

Welcome to the forum.
Hope the vet trip goes well and it proves to be nothing serious.
Please let us know how you get on.
