Hello everyone, I could really use your help!
A few days ago I noticed my 5 year old male skinny pig (Lennon) had some brown crusty on his nose and a bit on his lips. I thought it may have been bore glue or some other gunk that got stuck out of his fur so I gently peeled it off with coconut oil not thinking much of it (it was very stuck on and scab like).
Today I come to find him with that some brown crust back on his nose and he has unusually very dry ears. Then I took a look at his brother (another 5 year old male skinny pig) and he has this same large thick patch or brown crust on his nose as well!
I will be bringing them both into the vet as soon as possible. Is this some type of fungal infection? What kind of treatment plan can I expect?

I’ve never dealt with any kind of Guinea pig skin issues and could really use your help.

Thank you!IMG_6238.webp

Sorry to hear your skinny boys are both causing you worry!

I'm not an expert, so I can't tell - especially from the picture on my phone - whether it is ringworm or some dried gunk. They could possibly be the latter, boars being boars! It's good that you are getting them to the vet soon.

In the meantime, I'm linking the forum guide to ringworm which should give you the information you need on how to deal with it. . The best treatment I believe is oral itrafungol, but not every vet will prescribe that.
Ringworm: Hygiene, Care And Pictures

I would recommend that while you are waiting to get to the vet, you follow the hygiene precautions described in the guide, to avoid getting ringworm yourself as it is highly transmissible. I hope it isn't ringworm though!

Ring worm is very transmissible. I got it on my arm once.
