I have just noticed that Baby Finlay is missing a whole tooth on front upper incisives. He fell about 10 days ago and afterwards I think I noticed his tooth was gray but he's so flippin wriggly that I never got a good look. the tooth is really gone. There's a small bit (about 1mm) growing (I hope) from the gum line. the bottom teeth are still equal so I guess the break happened recently and he's still devouring his food and drinking fine, popcorning like crazy, etc. :aJFBQ00147070110B:
Anyone had a similar experience and could put my mind at rest? :Ayociexp113: please....

Yup - I have one sow who was previously notorious for chewing on the mesh, the water bottle, even the ceramic food bowl and she'd chew and chew until she snapped a tooth. Guinea pig's teeth grow continously. If the gum is a healthy colour and it's began growing back, he should be fine. My sow snapped a tooth on the top and bottom at the same time, and she had no problem eating. Give him soft vegetables if you're worried, like cucumber and lettuce. I also give my sow the chew sticks from Boredom Breakers Naturals, her favourite is the Dandelion. You can get them from most good pet shops and online too. They stopped her chewing and we've not had any toothy problems since! -c

thanks for that Tracyxx. I forgot that I bought a boredom breaker too, it's a metal ball with a bell where you can put veg or hay. He loves it and goes at it like crazy... A potential culprit... Like I said, because I suspect his tooth went grey after his fall - he was majorly stunned! it was probably waiting to happen, I just hope it grows back healthy! I had him checked by the vet yesterday and he said he was in perfect condition, but he didn't look at his teeth...

awwwwwwwww bless .......tsk these little wriggly worms do this dont they rolleyes
Yup don't worry it should grow back nice and healthy xxxxxxxxxx
If you notice it growing side ways or anything diff to usual, just get it checked out by the vets xx>>>xx>>>

thanks Glynis, much appreciated... :):)p^)

you're welcome i remember the first time it happened with our dear Sully i freaked totally and rushed him to vets......and Brendan just smiled and said it's ok they grow -c
PHEWWWWW
so i understand how you felt, you feel sick to the stomach and then feel terrible for the piggie

Finlay please don't worry you're mummy so much next time little one xx>>>xx>>>

well, he's a bit of a stunt pig, you see... mallethead he jumped off my hand as I was bout to weigh him, slid across the kitchen table and fell... bounced on the comfy chair and landed on the wooden floor. I swear I could see stars frlying around his head he was so stunned!:(|) I felt so guilty....:Ayociexp118:

Checked teeth again this morning. Still growing at the top but bottom are quite unequal at the mo... How fast do they grow?
It must have been sore for quite some time because I had noticed that he wasn't using his front teeth much... instead he was chewing with back teeth straight away... but he's so *** wriggly I never managed to get a good look at his teeth!grrrr

If he's having toruble eating his veg you could them up into smaller pieces until the front ones grow back again. Sorry not sure how long they take to grow.

Could take between 2 weeks to a month for it to grow back. It'll even itself off through chewing etc. xx>>>

It may be necessary to have the opposing incisors filed down a couple of times until it has grown back. You don't want the lower incisors overgrowing. If they are already growing uneven, it sounds like he does need a little help with wearing them down.

I have a three-incisored-pig, but hers was extracted so never grew back. I have to file her teeth 1-2 times per week to keep them in check.

I had a piggy years ago who had this, i found his tooth in the carrot he was eating!

N need to worry, they grow back quickly. Mine never had his filed whilst the other grew back, but if you feel better doing so, no harm in doing it!

I'm going to wait until the tooth has grown a bit. Bertie and late Rene both lost teeth and never needed them filed. I was just concerned that having turned grey before falling off, there might be something more sinister to it... It's already growing a bit!

It's not looking too good for Fi's teeth but he's eating just fine. I just want to give him another couple days and decide at the weekend if teeth are all getting slanted ad criss- cross (sp?). The poor wee baby... I feel like such a bad mommy... never thought he'd have injured himself there, I thought the legs or the back were a more obvious area... :(:(:(
