Someone(no idea who) dropped off a guinea pig on my door step.

This guinea pig had a very bad twisted back leg.

I took her to the vet yesterday, they gave her an shot and medication to take home, no cast or splint.

Was told that she will be disabled but will be fine.

I’m currently looking for a guinea pig vet that specialize in bones.

Anyone ever had a piggy foot broken this badly?

Best to get an xray i think.. did they give you pain meds? X
I wasn’t allow in the building due to Covid restrictions, but I did request an X-ray. Not completely sure if they did take one.

But yes I was given pain medicine

Hi!

If it is an old break or a dislocated knee that has been left like that for too long, then there is unfortunately not much a vet can do as they will not re-break a guinea pig leg. The only alternative would be amputation.

You can of course have her x-rayed at an exotics vet for confirmation.

If you cannot afford the vet cost, please contact a non-kill guinea pig rescue. Many do operate across state borders.

Thank you I will try those sites.

Hopefully, amputation won’t be needed.
The vet I went to mention amputation or to have her put down

Guinea pigs with amputated limbs where the broken/dislocated limb prevents movement can still have full happy lives normal lives. I know of quite a few permanent rescue residents. They get by on three legs just fine and free of the constant pain they were in before.

Helping All Little Furries is now called Helping All Little Pipsqueaks and they have moved state but they will still have contacts in the area. Metropolitan Guinea Pig Rescue also has contacts into PA. I can vouch for either of these.

Poor piggy.
Sounds as if it’s a very lucky piggy being left with someone so caring as you.
Hope everything works out well
