(Not sure if this is quite the right thread) Hello, I just met a very sweet piggy at a shelter. I was volunteering with dogs, but this piggy was sitting out on a counter, and he's been at the shelter for multiple months : ( the problem is he's a boar and I have two girls. If I get him I'll house him in a separate cage, but would it be a problem for him to be alone? Would he be able to socialize with my girls in anyway? If there's anything else about housing male and female pigs please tell me! He's such a sweetie I'd love to give him a good home.

Has he been neutered? Will the rescue do that? I'd never be able to volunteer at a rescue, I'd end up taking them all home!

I'm not sure whether he's neutered, if he isn't I'll get him neutered so he can live with my girl piggies. And yeah it's so hard not to want to take home all the animals :,( but just taking home one is ok right? Lol. I'm also not sure if the shelter will neuter him if I request it? Since it's not exclusively a guinea pig rescue, but I could take him to the vet and do it.

I think the first thing would be to chat to the shelter, tell them you already have experience, having the two sows, and let them know that you are willing to do what it takes to settle him happily into your home. You can ask what their plans are for him, as they may be already considering partnering him up with another boar. A few rescues have a 'don't neuter' policy, but most I think are in agreement with neutering and would be supportive of him having the op to go in with sows.
The thing you have to have in mind is that even after neutering there is no guarantee that the three will get along, as sometimes a sow will reject a boar and refuse him into the group. If you do take him on, and your sows reject him, you may have to be prepared to travel to other rescues to take him on 'dates' for him and sow to choose each other.
It takes at least 6 weeks post-neuter for a neutered boar to be considered 'safe'.

:)

Sure just the one, and just this one... Well I can't leave this one behind... Oh dear I have 50 piggies :))

A good rescue would help with neutering any animal, but you wanna check to make sure they have a competent vet too :)
