As a few of you know I have taken 2 foster piggies from Fi (the chippenham ones). They are living outside in a hutch, which is fine. I am handling then daily but they are just as afraid now as the first day. I'm happy to be patient, that's fine but then I look at my indoor guineas and they are SO happy and although not completely tame are ***** along great.

I plan on bringing the 2 fosters in during the winter but was considering doing it now. Problem is I am going on holiday in 2 weeks for a week and would want to put them back in the hutch for that time as mum is looking after them - a guinea pig virgin - i couldn't ask her to catch and move them, I can barely hold them to move them they freak out so bad. In the hutch they can go in the run or in a different room whist being cleaned out - no handling required.

Would it hurt to bring in, then put out, then bring in? The temperatures are still mild but mild enough for changes?

Thoughts please?

I wouldn't think the temperature is a problem right now but the change of environment twice in a short period of time will probably freak them out as they are so nervous anyway... they'll just have got used to the hutch, and the noises etc. then they'll come inside and be freaked by all the new sites and sounds, then they'll be back out again.... I'd wait until you're back from hols :)

I wouldn't risk it. Animals adapt to the temperature they live in, and having to keep bringing them in and out wouldn't be ideal. Letting them adapt to one temperature would be the right thing to do. That's what I would do. You dont have to follow my advice if you want to :)

Going to leave them out until after holiday. It will be a bit stressful going from place to place.

Thanks guys

With them being Foster Piggies, I would be inclined to keep them outside away from pet piggies, so that you don't get too attached, it might make it easier when a new forever home is found. That is if they haven't found their forever home with you already.;)
