Apologies if this question has been asked already but couldn't find it on the forum! But I was just wondering, how do you persuade piggies to go over bridges and up and down ramps?

I have a temporary cage set up for mummy and baby Guinea Pig, but it's horribly small so I've added on a big run, but put a little wooden bridge over the lip of the shop bought cage so they can access the full run. Problem is they won't use it. They run around it, under it but not up it. I've even tried placing mum and baby on the top and they happily run down it but won't do it on their own! Any advice?

i have a pair of non-ramp users too! I am planning on making a ramp tunnel once my sewing machine is fixed.... not sure how yet mind!

I tried using a shop bought tunnel, but it didn't sit properly on the cage lip and I didn't want them to hurt themselves so it's back to the wooden bridge!

Let me know if the ramp tunnel works! ;)

Spoke too soon. They just discovered the ramp.... It was so exciting we had a full 5 mins of wheeking, popcorning and running up and down the ramp!

For those having ramp issues I posted this elsewhere on the forums recently...

The way to train them first off is to remove all hidies from the cage setup. Then place a little line of food at feeding time up the ramp at intervals to the top. Then withdraw to a safe distance for 10 minutes so as not to disturb them. Their quest for food and natural urge to explore should then take over. If you have more than two piggies then try and deal with them in pairs on this. For one of mine I also then had to place her part way up the ramp and be on hand to make sure she didn't try to jump off from high up, because otherwise she would just stay at the bottom of the run in the corners. After they have been up the ramp once and are settled at the top, you can always repeat in reverse too, if you have a larger cage setup like mine. Once they have done it once, they will explore again and before you know it they will be charging up and down at break neck speed.
