Hello!

I'm looking for ideas for my piggies to have a bridge so that they can get out of their Ferplast Rabbit 120 into their run which will always be available for them. I thought the playstix might work but also thought they might move around and strand or hurt my piggies. I was also looking at rolls of bamboo (like what's used for fencing in gardens) but an unsure of how safe this is for pigs.

Any ideas for safe bridges would be fab because I'd love to extend their bedroom with a run while I build up money for something bigger :)

Thanks!

Can you show us your cage and where you are proposing to put the ramps it's very difficult too imagine the set up.

Sorry, I didn't even think of that. So this is basically the same cage as I have and I will be putting a ramp from one of the open doors to the ground but as you can see, the sides are quite high. When I get home from work I can take a better picture of the depth of the cage if needed. I think I may take the white ledge out as I'm not too sure on it as it would also need a bridge to get up to but it may be easier to connect a bridge to that and have it coming out the cage on the ledge part rather than up and over the side of the cage

I would make something from 2 pieces of guttering taped together with adhesive tape - and use a piece of guttering for grip

here's a link to mine ..

My New Ramp

Hi! I have a cage like that (Ferplast 120), and most piggies can jump up and down from it ok. Babies use the stepped bit on the left to help them get up. Though it's true that not all pigs will jump up there; my Zebedee doesn't, I think he may have been in a single level cage until I adopted him aged 4 - or else he's just too lazy! So you could leave the shelf and maybe make a ramp down to their run so they can see that they can walk down safely.

That sounds brilliant, I'm getting mine from babies so hopefully if I pop some hay or treats onto the ledge then they will be fine with learning how to do it :)

When I added a loft area to my cage, my youngest Eileen who was just 6 weeks old was first to use the ramps. I think babies are quite adventurous and will get the hang of it quickly. My older girls (around 2 years) took a little longer to start using them.

Be sure to post photos of your new piggies once they arrive :D

Brilliant, baby piggies should be no problem for the climbing then and I'll probably use guttering for the ramp to the run :) I definitely will post photos, I'm getting so impatient to get them now! The mums were due on Wednesday but still haven't popped so hopefully next week some time is when I'll hear news on the babies!

The waiting is the worst! I knew I was getting my girls just after one of them had a litter of pups so I had to wait till they were old enough as I was also taking a pup. The waiting was awful. I finally got my girls home and the waiting was over.... so I thought. Turns out one of them is pregnant! She's due any day. More waiting... :yikes:

My babies took to a ramp within minutes, but I fostered an older piggy (a year) and he had to live in the outdoor hutch for a couple of weeks. He never went down the ramp, even when I left his food there. I even tried putting him half way but he just ran up and stayed there.

Yep, on reflection I'd say that a ramp is definitely needed down to the run - shortly after we got him I remember Zeb decided to jump back into the cage from ground level, and sprained a leg in the process. So a ramp of guttering (covered with carpet or similar for grip) is a good idea to stop accidents like that happening.

Hope the babies you're waiting for arrive soon - then you'll have a looong 3 weeks wait until they are weaned and can go to live with you...
