Hi.
I’ve noticed different breathing in my Guinea pig the past 2 days . She’s still eating and drinking . She’s not making any wheezing noises or gasping for air . It just seems a lot slower and noticeable . Does anyone think this is not normal and I should take her to the vets tomorrow?

This is definitely abnormal and needs attention immediately.
When Bear came to live with us from Petco, he needed to be taken to the vet immediately over breathing issues. Dr. Jayne said this was an emergency and took Bear in right away. He was better in no time after the visit to the doctor.

What was up with your piggy in the end ? I’ll have to take her to the vets tomorrow then, she is still eating and acting her normal self so I don’t think it’s an emergency just yet . I think I’ve caught it quick if it is something ..

Thank you for that. My piggy is eating and acting normal at the moment . It’s just her breathing looks different . Is that video of concern?

You can never gauge sufficient hay intake by eye hence the need for routine weekly weight checks, switching to daily weight checks during any period of illness or concern. A piggy can appear to be eating hay but their intake has actually dropped and that causes weight loss

I can’t actually view the video (it’s best to upload to YouTube) but anything breathing related should be checked by a vet.

On yeah I know what you mean! I will do that . I was just saying like she’s still coming down for veg and stuff and interested in it which is a good sign. Because I know some pigs go off their food when they’re ill or have an infection.

If you are worried about it I’d definitely get her seen by a vet. It’s hard to see exactly what’s going on in a video. It’s good you’ve noticed it quickly though. Good luck. 🤞🏻

According to Dr. Jayne, any kind of breathing issue is considered emergency and requires a doctor visit immediately.
As I have stated, Bear came to us from Petco and he seemed to be sneezing along with heavy breathing. I took Bear to see Dr. Jayne who diagnosed him with Upper Respiratory Infection and gave him oral medication. He had diarrhea after taking the medicine for about a week but he was better soon after.

Thank you! She’s been given antibiotics for infection but she csnt rule out a heart issue . Fingers crossed these antibiotics work!
