Hello I'm Milli, and not only am I new to this forum I am a first time owner for a cavy.
My cavy is only about 3-4 months old and his name is Dallas.
I adopted him from a petsmart as he was returned for not being too little kid friendly. He likes to chew and nibble on fingers but not bite too hard. He's a little runt and I am worried that while I am at work he maybe lonely and I am thinking about getting him a partner. I play with him everyday, 10 hrs of the day I am gone and I don't want him to become antisocial. Does anyone have any suggestions? And if I do decide to find him a playmate what would be a minimum sized cage for them to both live in?

I have just started and now I have so many questions.

Thanks! ::)

Hi Milli and a big Welcome to you

I would definately think about getting you piggy a friend, they love company and should always be in pairs
but I hate to say they are addictive and you may not stop at 2. I Have 14 at the moment!!
its great that you have joined a forum as everyone here is friendly and have great advice for newbies

Thanks so much for the welcome!
Well with my living situation as for now I can only have 1 or 2. :-\
But I hope to make a purchase of my own house soon to have maybe 3 or 4.

Hi =D Congrats on rescuing the piggie! I'm sure he would love a friend.. piggies love chatting & snuggling. I hope you find lots of info here :)

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

I'm sure your piggy will benefit very much by having a mate. :)

Hello & Welcome to the forum!

Congratulations on being a first time piggy owner - they are lovely animals!

Yes, I agree with the others that it would be good to get him a friend.

As he is quite young, you may prefer to have him neutered - make sure you choose a competent vet, ask for recommendations in your area. You could then get him one or two live-in girlfriends. Provided you choose a good vet, this is probably your easiest option. (No experience myself, but many others here have successfully paired neutered boars with one or two sows.)

Alternatively you could adopt another boar - there always seem to be lots of boars needing homes. However, introducing boars is a slow process - see the 'barmy4boars' website for more info - and you would need to put the new arrival in a separate cage to start with. Pairing boars is very rewarding when it works, but I'm told that partnering a neutered boar with sows is easier.

welcome to the forum, hope you find you little Dallas a friend soon as already said they are addictive, I have 27 use to have 44 at one time but you little man might not take straight away to a new friend but make sure he is a younger one more chance of being accepted, some suggest neutering but I have never done this with mine but its an idea if you want him to have a sow as a friend for obvious reasons, good luck
