Hi, I have recently bought a double hutch for my 2 gorgeous boys ernie and rolo,
Ernie seems to spend alot of time downstairs whilst rolo stays up and I've noticed there spending alot of time apart on their own, is that ok? Does that mean they dont like eachother or do guinea pigs enjoy some along time ? I thought they were very sociable but since buying this hutch they are apart quite alot.

At night I put them both together and I shut off the downstairs section and they seem fine together.

Is this normal?

Thanks

I have two girls who spend time alone - one upstairs in the loft, the other downstairs. They come together to eat veggies and hay, but are often apart. They get on well with each other - I think they just like time apart too.

Hi and welcome

Guinea pigs are social animals but it is a misconception that they are spending all their time together and sleeping snuggled up. A very few will do it but the majority won't.

You are giving your boys the choice to each have their own patch and to live as it fits them best. That is one of the most loving gifts you can make them! How old are they?

Ours go from sometimes stuffing themselves into the same hidey, to otherwise doing completely their own thing (e.g. one napping upstairs, one eating hay downstairs). Just depends on their mood I guess!

If they didn't like each other, they would be showing that actively, rather than just not hanging out.

Oh ok, so its completely ok? I purchased them 3 weeks ago and they were 10 weeks old when purchased so they are 13 weeks.

Thankyou ! Like I said they are fine together, especially when they are in their run on the grass ! Just wasnt sure if it meant something if they are hardly together in the hutch. Thankyou !

Before I had to split my herd up to a 2 and a 3 in my double hutch, I would often find one piggie (not the same one) alone. I guess they like a bit of "me" time too!

Mine rarely snuggle together.
They all have their favourite places in the cage.
The most common time to find them close together is when all the little noses are in the same pile of veggies.
Pictures of you little ones will be nice please

Oh yeah ... Forgot about the new spot ... I sent you those coordinates last time and you promised me you wouldn't lose them!
I’m sorry! What with all these little notes I keep writing I had a clear out and may have inadvertently thrown it away. It starts with 8 doesn’t it...I’m quite good with numbers 🤔

So have got the whole teenage still to go through. That is the time when it really decides whether your boys are personality compatible or not. but being able to have an amicable divorce if they wish to, will go a long way.
