My boy seems to get what we think is a recurring UTI. However it seems to happen when he is fed red pepper. (Actual blood not just slightly discoloured urine) anyone have anything similar? Any suggestions?
I had completely cut it out and hes been fine since, but due to me having covid this week they shared a half a red pepper as supplies were low.. is it coincidence?
Hes been xrayed for stones but they were inconclusive

TIA X

Hi

Some veg can discolour the urine; it is more likely that this is what is happening because UTI symptoms are progressive over about the space of 5-7 days with increasingly regular and stronger pain when peeing and pooing. The urine is not just slightly discoloured, it is generally an intense red from a natural dye called porphyrine and they may or may not test for blood (although seemingly clear urine can also test high for blood, by the way).

Has your boy been treated for UTI? And how long has this exactly been going on? Do you have pictures of the discoloured urine? Have there ever been other symptoms than reddish urine?
