Hi
I have a 120cm cage. I only have one guinea pig so he can move about easily in there, it's just it is quite a small cage , as in , you can't do much with it. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas of what I can put in it to make it look a bit bigger, and more fun for alvin? I currently have a hay litter tray and wire sticks house , food bowl and one toy, and this is all I can put in there! Any replys would be great!

Thanks :ple::nod::help:

Well, it does seem like Alvin already has plenty in his cage! I have a 100 x 100 with 2 boys in it and all I can fit in are 2 hay trays, 2 food bowls, 2 water bottles, 2 hanging wood chews, 2 hideys & 2 very small floor toys. The inner cardboard tube of a loo roll slit open & stuffed with hay is a good toy that doesn't take up much room. Anything that can be hung off the cage wires like a wood chew takes up less space.

Thanks for your reply :). Can I just say that I have seen pictures of others people's cages and they have fleece, it seems to make the cage look bigger and cleaner . Do you agree with this?

Hey,

I also have 120cm cages but there is still a lot they can do in their cage and have room to run laps, I think it depends on how you position things. I have a bendy bridge, a wooden platform and a tunnel and then they have toys like a willow ball, a dumbbell and a wooden garland chew.

I put the bigger things like the bendy bridge and platform in or near the corners so they have all the space in the middle to run around, they also run through them as they have more then one exit.

I also use fitch bedding which is white so i don't know if that makes it looks more spacey...

:)

I used to use loose bedding and now I use fleece in their run and vetbed in their cage. I wouldn't say fabrics make them look cleaner! You can see every poop. Most people post pictures right after a cage clean so it looks good. I can't manage that because the minute I put the boys back in after a cage clean it is part of their "we're home" ritual to run around the cage exploring everything dropping poops along the way. My Peanut Butter even poops as he runs, no stopping for him. As for the fabrics making the cage look bigger I never really noticed that when I switched from loose bedding so can't rightly say.

You could hang strips of fleece over the bars so they hang in the cage.Peg it so it doesn't come off.I had fleece forests for mine .Took them out over summer but will be putting them back in soon. You could do this in a corner or just do a couple across the cage .Mine love it.You could also put in another level. You would be surprised how well they jump

I love hay as the top layer of bedding as you never really see the poops!

I like to alternate the things that are in the hutch, so that when they are locked in at night they have something different to nosy at, without restricting their space to run about - its amazing how quickly they will come over and start messing about with a new cardboard box that has a few doors cut in it, simple things like that seem to keep my boys entertained.

I don't think your piggie will be bored if there are a few places to hide, tunnel and sleep in - I think the aesthetics are possibly more for us humans, so go for it if you want to decorate the cage with a theme - the piggy will just be happy that you are fussing around them and giving them lots of attention.:)

I've got a hay rack, small wooden bendy sticks bridge, a snuggle sack and a wooden house in our cage.

The only other thing I could suggest for you would be a cage mate but I don't know why Alvin is living alone - there may be a good reason. If he could live with another piggie that would give him lots of entertainment.

Hi thanks for your reply I will try and get them shelves. I have tried alvin with a friend but unfortunately after a few months he would still not take to it he had wounds from fighting. I am home at all times so he does get company. I do believe some guinea pigs are happy to be alone but thanks for the advice, and thanks again for your reply :)

I would be interested to see how you have done these shelfs in your cage. If you have a pic.

I have a 2x5 C&C cage but always feel adding toys makes it too small, so I tend to opt for tunnels, wood and small throw around toys like balls and jingly things with bells in and then lots of hanging toys instead, fleece forests are also good and anything home made from paper bags or cardboard are a winner with my lads. I put a large paper bag in earlier this evening... It's been well used already and has erm... "various stains" to prove it. Not sure what they love about it so much but I will most likely throw it away tomorrow if it is too dirty. and don't forget just sheets of newspaper, I sometimes just screw a few sheets up and chuck them in or lay them flat lightly over the top of everything in the cage putting the piggies almost in darkness, they love it they run around underneath them and then tear them to shreds!

In this cage the piggies just use the shelf for hiding under, I like it because I can still see them! In my other cage they are able to jump up on to the shelf, so it gives a bit of extra space! I have covered that shelf in vetbed to make it comfy and easier to clean, but because of that it doesn't show up well in a photo. Hope that helps!
