Hi, is it normal for a piggy to be bony around the bum area? He's a consistently good weight, around 1180-1200g and lively as anything so I'm not unduly worried about his health but when you stroke him he feels bony around his back end. He seems to carry his fat on his sides like little love handles! My other boy Bubble is totally different, he's padded all over. They both eat the same, I'd even say Squeak is a bit more of a glutton than Bubs! Is it just that they all have their individual shapes like we do?

I'm so glad you've posted this as I've been thinking the same. One of my girls is a healthy weight but has a boney bum! At first I was worried I was feeling hard lumps until I realised it was her boney bits.

The bones in older guinea pigs become more prominent once they are past their prime. This is usually most noticeable in the hip area.

That said, piggies can have very different figures and body shapes in either gender.

You will notice the same happening with old humans, too!

As with humans, some piggies put it all on the waist and still have a relatively small looking bum.

if he is older then it's normal. as they age they distribute their weight differently. happened to ches, and maisie too as they got older :)

I'm also very glad to read this - my Widget piggy is only just over a year old and has a very slender, bony bum despite weighing in at around 1100g.
