I have just lost my very favourite piggy Lovely and I am a bit worried about her long-term companion Squeaky (Lovely's daughter). I got a neutered boy, Ringo, about 6 weeks ago and everything was fine until Lovely got ill. I took her out of their cage as she was really in a bad way, and sadly she died. However, now Ringo seems to have turned into a sex crazed lunatic who just won't leave Squeaky alone - there haven't been any real fights, but I really feel sorry for her having to deal with this sex-pest! Has anyone else had experience of this?

Here's hoping he calms down......is it a good idea to get more piggies to add to the herd to break up the dynamic?

Give Ringo a day or two - he's on testosterone overlaod and needs to run out of it. Squeaky will just have to bear it; she won't get hurt! The boy's brain goes completely out of the window, and you have to wait until he's found it again. Boys do tend to go overboard on introductions or after a separation.

It's actually not as bad on a girl as it looks - I had one of my girls not letting me near "her" boy the day after he went completely bonkers and she was driven to distraction - that taught me! Afterwards, they should settle in together very well and cuddly with each other. It's part of cross gender bonding.

From my own experiences, I think they will be totally OK on their own. If you want to introduce more girls, getting a couple of youngsters would be best, but not necessary. Be braced for a repeat of him go wild again whenever you introduce more girls, although with age and a higher number of ladies, the testostone excesses get less.

Best of luck!

So sorry to hear about Lovely.

I agree with post above. Change in group dynamics can cause an increase in dominance behaviour, and re-working of the hierarchy. See if it settles down again over the next few weeks, it should as they get used to being a pair.

It looks really bad for the female but it is normal behaviour so looks worse for us than it is for them.

I hope they settle again soon

I have to say also that since Lovely got ill Ringo has really discovered his wheek! Or should I say OINK! He really does have quite a deep piggy voice, very cute indeed. He is still pestering the Squeakster, but he is such a little charmer it's hard to hold it against him!

First of all, Lovely is STUNNING. I love her colouring. I am so sorry she has gone over to The Bridge. :(

Yes, it does look bad to watch thinking you need to rescue her but it is just nature and he will calm down. I agree with getting more girls.

I have just introduced the new girls to Ringo and Squeaky, so now Ringo thinks he has died and gone to boy-pig heaven......he has this distant and quite crazed look in his eyes and is literally quite possessed with testosterone! The girls seem to spend the whole time telling him off whilst he just wanders round like Mr. Hot Love, then has to collapse in a heap from all of the exertion! He slightly reminds me of this old dog my neighbour had who used to go crazy and bonk the draught excluder!
