Wheekies Mum

Hi All

My two Rex boars Dexter and Fred get on very well. They are not brothers but were brought as brothers since they were born, they are now a year old. They will however insist in trying to mate with each other from time to time. Today for example Fred pestered Dexter so much at both ends that he bit him on the nether regions and made him bleed. The only thing that deterred them was a sharp jet of water from the water sprayer.

Will this sort of behaviour subside or not and if not is there anything we can do to stop it?

BTW they are both most definitely boars. They have daily access to large run directly from their hutch in which they trim my lawn, eat dandelions, clover and trefoils. They are fed a diet of mixed veggies including home grown cucumbers, green and baby runner beans. They have hay and pig mix everyday too. So I am hoping they are not bored.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Over whelmed.

I am just writing to say thank you for all the advice I have received about my 2 boars trying to mount each other. The friendly response has been over whelming. Thank goodness for my local vet nurse who has given me lots of advice on the subject.

I'll give this forum a big miss next time.

hey - oh no this got missed out. So sorry you didn't get the response you were hoping for.

I don't come on this bit much but if I had seen your post I would have responded.

You already know that they do this sometimes.

I wanted to ask how old are they?

Boars and sows do this in single sex pairs, it is quite normal. Although the biting may become a problem.

BTW your boars are really really lovely. VERY good looking lads.

Sorry again on behalf of the forum, it's been a bit hectic from my part and we have lost a few pigs / had a few illnesses that seem to have preoccupied people here.

I'm sorry your post got overlooked, hoping you will stick around though :( It is a very active forum and can get very busy round here.

It sounds to me like your boys have a good set-up with lots to occupy them.

I don't have experience with boar pairs, so am unableto answer your question though
