As we all know that dreaded day that every guineapig dreads is coming soon so I was wondering what can I do to help my guinea pigs feel relaxed I have 5 girls who live in a Wendy house and 5 boys who live in a shed, wOuld running electric to both sheds which radios on and a light help. I will also be out doing my round of the garden as I have rabbits too ? Thanks just want to be prepared xx

I worried myself silly last year about my two boys. They live in a shed. I also have an almost 7yr old rabbit who lives outside. My guinea pigs (it was the first bonfire night that I had them) were brought indoors for bonfire night last year. the noise of the fireworks didn’t bother them. For new year when I knew more fireworks would happen, I left them in their shed - the fireworks didn’t bother them. The first couple of bangs of fireworks made them take notice, but after that they just went on with their hay munchkin business and were absolutely fine! Their hutches (as always in winter) were covered with blankets and their hutch cover so they wouldn’t have seen any bright flashes. I think my lot are so used to hearing my children shouting and playing out, the lawnmower, hedge trimmer etc that they settle into sounds really quite easily now. So this year, I’ll cover hutches and make sure they’ve got lots of snuggly hay and hides houses (no different to alway really), will check on them but hopefully they won’t react to them

Thankyou for the reply last year most of mine were fine but it’s 5 of my pigs and one bunnies first bonfire night so a bit nervous how they will be x

I haven't really anything constructive to add (and my piggies are indoors rather than outdoors so don't have the same level of noise to deal with)… But on both Bonfire Night and New Year's Eve I found it interesting that neither of mine seemed that bothered about the bangs, but the one thing they didn't like was the fireworks that make a sort of showery noise (not sure how best to describe it!) I tried playing them soothing music but they made it clear that they found the music more offensive than the fireworks! I would imagine if your guinea pigs have a light on that would minimise the shock effect of the flashing of fireworks and if you keep popping in to see them that would help.

Thank you I'm hoping to get some of those click on lights so it's not too bright but will be bright enough also by a radio I mean so when the persons talking it's as if someone's with them xx
