This follows on from my Adding 3rd Boar topic. As I am now only trying to bond 2 I thought it needed a different header! How long should I expect the teeth chattering to go on? These boys are living next to each other divided by a wire panel. They have been out together 6 times now for about 30 mins each time. I have put them in a run this morning with lots of boxes, tubes, hay and food and they are ok but they are still chattering thier teeth. Minstrel is quite laid back about it all. All he wants to do is eat or rest in one of the boxes but Zebedee keeps going up to him and chattering his teeth right in his face. Minstrel then chatters back and Zebedee backs down and runs away, but very soon comes back and does it again. I really need to get these two in a hutch together now due to having taken on another boar which was desperately in need of a home and needing some space for him. Do you think as there has been no outright fight between these two I could safely put them in a hutch together. It is a two tier hutch so I would put 2 of everything in, also Minstrel is not used to a ramp so Zebedee would be able to go down it out of the way. I can also close the ramp off so would it be a good idea to do this if I am not around to keep a close eye on them? Thanks

Well, if i were in your situation as i have been many a times ::) i would let them get on with it - sorry thats what i do ;D

I have trios of boars and pairs of boars and have had like 7 boars of various ages living together asweel from different times and just introduced them :)

Cause I'm quite confident in bonding boars thats just how i do it but it helped me out a little when i first started bonding by bathing them both first together - That way they will both be going through the same thing - drying off together etc and wont be bothered by each other but will be too bothered about whats happening ;D

Then dry them off on your lap or somewhere with them both on you then let them run around inside for a while - They should get to know each other better ;)

What i found out is that i dont waste time anymore by introducing them one day then putting them back in their cages after - what i do now is introduce them then let them stay together all the time unless they have a major fight which has never happened to me yet O0

I have had this with three of my boars, two got on fine and the third was being teeth chattered and even had a few skirmishes, i kept a close eye and even had them in same cage with a devider for a while but they just jumped over it! they get on now, they are not bessie mates but they are quite happy... Good luck

How long did it take for them to stop the teeth chattering and skirmishes? These two are now in the 2 tier hutch and are fine if one stays up and one down but as soon as one moves the teeth chattering starts and Minstrel chases Zebedee away. It is Zebedee who is being a bit of a pain. He keeps going up to Minstrel rumbling and teeth chattering. Also Minstrel has a small nick on his nose this morning so they have obviously had a tussle in the night, but I think that may be because he has now decided to live downstairs rather than up and Zebedee was possibly protecting what he thinks is his patch. I really want to perservere with this but not if it is going to cause stress to either guinea. It is causing me stress already!

Have just noticed Minstrel has lost a claw on his back foot. Could this be as a result of a fight? I can't think how it could be. That explains where the blood was from, the small scratch on his nose didn't seem enough to have bled that much. His toe looks ok, just a dried blob of blood but I will keep an eye on it incase of infection.

COULD OF BEEN DUE TO A FIGHT :( are there any sharp areas in his new hutch ?

No sharp areas but he did come down the ramp for the first time. Wondering if he got his foot caught at the top or something although I think this is unlikely. I still can't see how it could have happened in a fight.
