Hey y’all

I work Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 3:00pm Friday 6:00am-10:00am. After work I come home for an hour max before heading off to the gym for an hour and a half. By the time I get home it’s usually anywhere between 5:00-6:00 pm.

When I’m home I sit next to my piggies cage and watch them as they do their guineas things and talk to them. I usually give them veggies around 8:00pm and try to be in bed by 10:30.

ive made them a play pin and got some pee pads to put down in it for floor time. But I have trouble finding the time to take them out of the cage and sit with them.

Any advice on how I should fit in floor and/or lap time and still be able to have time to do other things? And what I should do during this time in order to grow my relationship with them? Also how much time should they have out of the cage and how often?

Time out the cage depends how big their cage is.

My piggies favourite contact is me sitting by the cage and speaking to them and patting them while in their cage. You get to know where your piggy likes to be patted. They can like the side of their cheek stroked. One of my pigs loves a whole body massage. Getting them tame, I hand fed them in the cage. I also kiss their heads which possibly I may enjoy more than them lol. Catching them to go on my knee I find unenjoyable and before long they're cheeping or nuzzling my clothes to go back in their cage. They have fresh hay and veg morning and evening and I chat to them then too. Guinea pigs can learn to recognise different sounds for different foods and that's a nice way to interact with them.

My guys are the same way, they make a big fuss if I try having them in my lap and will bite me to let me know they ain’t havin’ it which makes it unpleasant. And the cage I’ve got them in is 30” by 60”. My boys have learned that the sound of a bag crumpling most likely means veggies lol. They are not fans of being touched very much at all but they’ll come up to me and nibble my finger gently and then go about their business.

Recognising veg sounds and nibbling your fingers is a great start! It takes time to build up trust. I've entered 'how much floor time' into the search field and got helpful info.
