Hello,I am currently attempting to bond my 6 week old guinea pig J Rod with Hazel who is 2

Currently Hazel is kinda chattering but not so much that I’m worried he’ll bite J. They are currently eating and J retreated to a little hut only he could get into for a few minutes. Hazel is sniffing Js rump and J Rod seems to mostly be okay with it but he did do a kick back motion at one point. J Rod also seems to be over dramatic at the moment because he’s whimpering the entire way through. Hazel seems excited but I’m unsure about J although he is eating any advice?

As long as there are no full on fights or aggression, then leave them to it.
best not to have any hideys in the bonding pen though, just a pile of hay

Yeah I went ahead and took that out as um...Hazel like a rat,can fit into anything his head fits into and I wasn’t aware guinea pigs can do that lol

Is it okay if they rumble strutted and Hazel left some uh...goo? On the baby’s cheek? (J Rod only rumbled after Hazel started but he didn’t mount or anything)

Also how well should I clean Hazels old cage? It’s pine so there’s some spots that are worse than others,is a quick washout okay or does muscle need to be applied? So to speak

:agr: All completely normal

Is it normal that my younger one is still making noises at this point? It’s fast and he’s starting to slow it down a bit but I still hear him,it’s kinda like “whurp whurp whurp” this is NOT the young one wheeking though and Hazel is only kinda rumbling now and then but nothing constant.

It will take them two weeks to fully establish a relationship so during that time you will see a lot of dominance displays over the coming weeks.
Even after the two weeks though, you will still see dominance as the youngster becomes hormonal
