Hi, I have a 6 year old entire boar, that I am trying to bond with a desexed sow. Rufus is such a sweet and docile old man, and Meg is acting very dominant. She rumblestrutts near him, she was the one trying the humping, she chases him and nudges/nips him in the side when she wants him to move, often when he is asleep. Has anyone ever had this happen before? And, if so, did it settle down, or should I try a different sow with him?

Hi! How long have they been together? It sounds like they are still very much in the dominance phase, which can last about 2 weeks on average. Make sure that you have got every in twos (bowls, bottles, hideys with 2 exits, access to hay).

They have been together since 13th of June, as I said, she is being very dominant. I do have two bowls etc and have put in a shelf, that she can get onto but he can't, so she can get away from him, if needed. Just was wondering if a less dominant sow would be better for him, or whether things will settle down so that he feels less harassed.

If things don't settle down and you can try him with another girl, then it may ben worth trying him with a less dominant sow.

Took me a good two weeks to bond my two spayed sows to my intact boar - exactly as wiebike says.

I have seen her groom his eyes/face. Then she lay near him to rest, but, after a while she turned and bopped him. I guess things are slowly getting there, may just take time, and I don't want to give up to soon.

Things are definitely going the right way, so please stop worrying! She is telling him that she loves him, but that she is the boss. They have definitely bonded.
