I currently have two sows and may soon be getting an un-neatured boar. Although they will be living in seperate cages, they will be in the same room.

I was just wondering if the smell of the sows will upset the boar/change his behaviour or vice versa with the sows. Also would it be ok to use the same equipment eg. wooden tunnels that have once been in the sows cage, sharing the same outdoor run, or will the smell drive him wild?

Just checking before I commit, because I don't want to upset any of them

Thanks for the help in advance :)

Can i ask why your not considering putting him with the sows? in the wild one male lives with females. It often changes pigs and they come right out their wee shells.
Lots of people have neutered piggies in groups. I have a neutered boar and two girls- they are the happiest piggies Ive ever owned.

No the smells won't upset him... :)
Are you planning to neuter him...?

He'll be fine - but beware boars are serious escape artists when there are girls around. I had one squeeze through a two inch gap and get in a C&C - luckily he was 4 weeks post neuter.

Can i ask why hes being kept alone? :) Only generally piggies get very lonely without company. :) Might be worth neutering him if thats a possibility regarding age and health etc.

I'd personally give him the snip and let him live with the ladies - one less, albeit bigger, cage to clean out too!

When our boar first arrived he lived next door to the girls and spent his entire time rattling the bars and driving everyone bonkers! He was so much happier after he had been neutered and could move in with them. I'd recommend it for everyone's sake!
