Hi eveyone , i just have a few concerns about my 4 year old boar , he has got quite a lot of residue in only one of his eyes , it’s not any colour or clumpy or anything like that but he is losing hair under his eye where this is occurring. i was just wondering if anyone knew what this could be about , thank you all!

Hi

Please see a vet. He sounds like he has got an irritation in his eye which makes it run. Only a hands-on examination will tell you what is going on and whether the 'residue' is ulceration gunk from an infection/possible eye poke etc. or not.

Eye injuries and infections can deteriorate very quickly and should be idealy vet checked within 24 hours (at any time of the day/night if there is bleeding). Please give your vets a call first thing in the morning. Speed of being seen and having eye assessed under UV light with a special dye comes before seeing an exotics vet - diagnostics and medication are the same as for dogs and cats, so any halfway decent general vet will do. The sooner you can step in with treatment, the faster and easier the eye will heal.

We can help you with practical care tips once you know what you are up against and what meds you have got.

All the best.

Good luck at the vets. I hope it’s something easily treatable. ❤️
