In general....when does it seem to begin (like at the dropping of the testicles?) or is it just a time period (read anywhere from 3 to 15 months of age)?

Does it typically last as long as from 3 to 15 months? :))

Sorry, got two fairly young boys who are driving me up the wall! :p

Rory's testicals have begin to descend and I guess his hormones are in over drive and Shotzy is about 3 months older than Rory.

Boars

My boys are about 14 months old now.

I didn't notice a particular age when the teeth chattering and rumblestrutting started particularly, but they still do it all.... all the time!

Even when they were out on the grass today, there were several occasions when their chins came up, and teeth were shown- even with all that grass to distract them!

One second they were showing teeth, and the next they were laying down next to one another... just an ongoing dispute between them I suppose.

Hope Rory and Shotzy sort themselves out soon, if only for your peace of mind!

Hannah. x

Thanks Hannah!

They've never fought and I've never heard them chatter their teeth...just rumbling and strutting with the occasional chin-off and now Rory trying to mount Shotzy. rolleyes

Seems like I might be sleeping on the couch for a while! :p

Leaving them to it...

If they're not actually fighting, I would leave them to it, unless it's prolonged chinning etc.

Mine take it turns to chase one another, so I think it's fairly even with my boys.

Are Rory and Shotzy of a similar size or is one being "bullied"?

Yeah it begins with Rory running laps then Shotzy getting up and chasing him (no aggression, seems like they're playing) then Rory turn around and tries to mount Shotzy and then Shotzy turns around and they do the chin off for a second and go to their hay racks.

Well Rory is younger but you know how massive Molly's babies were, he's 3 months younger than Shotzy (Rory will be 2 months old in 2 days! :o ) but they are just about the same size...Rory being about 50 grams less! :{ Doesn't seem like its bullying, just Rory not being able to handle his hormones....when Shotzy was this age he was by himself, so not really sure how its supposed to go! :))

hmmm, all of my pairs are different, they all seem to have minimal dominance beghaviour, the same cannot be said about Zanzabar and Baker, they are 11 months old and 7 months and they still rumble and chatter like mad, particuarly if they invade eachothers space,i hope youjr boys calm down soon marie xxxxxxxx

Me too *she types while "in bed" on the couch* rolleyes :))

Rory and Shotzy do that too (minus teeth chatting) if they run into one another, but just the last few days, when I started noticing Rory's new equipment :)) that its just gotten all worse. Silly boys!

i dont find it to much of a problem i have just notice the three other pairs couldnt live without eachother but with Zan and Baker its a friendly relationship providing they have plenty of room, the other day i put them in there travel cage just while i cleaned there cage out and all hell broke loose, thankgod they stopped there fighting very quickly and no blood was drawn:...

Gawd, poor you, and on top of all that testosterone, you are probably having to put up with the endless scenting too :)>>>

As long as they are not actually fighting, it all sounds normal. It's a big worry for us humans when we know that they are going through all this as you feel you have to constantly watch them to make sure no fights break out as they can sometimes get a little carried away with the boy behaviour!

If it's just loud squeaking and nose-offs and breaking it up to wander off to get munchies, then it's all okay, they are squaring up to each other and sorting it out relatively peacefully themselves. It's when it starts to escalate into snorting and loud teeth clattering and yawning when you need to get ready to quite literally throw in the towel.

My sympathies are with you, it's stressful for us at this stage as well as for the pigs isn't it!

Yeah, my room reeks at the moment. I am just glad they're not here in the TV Room and then stink up the room that everyone is in! :))

Just realized that they have been together for a month now....seems like much longer! rolleyes

Thanks. Will this just go on until they're done or is there a "typical" time period?

Nope, unfortunately there is no set time period, it's just until they are done! :))

They will probably have periodical squabbles forever. No reason, they just do!

Of course.....should have known, boys and time schedules don't mix! rolleyes :p

Sorry that you seem to have got lively times! Rory sounds like a VERY boisterous youngster; but as long as there is no aggression, you are still OK! Things might flare up when one or the other has a particularly heavy hormone hit.
