Hi TGPF, hoping you can help - Our eldest boar, Bluebear, literally has turned into a poop machine in the last 5 minutes. We noticed him sitting in one of his tunnels, squeaking to himself repeatedly, with poop after poop after poop coming out of him like a conveyer belt. There was no break in-between; just pooping.

Other than this, he has been eating normally, drinking normally, peeing normally and has kept a consistent weight, but is on the following medication for a wound on his back from a fight:
  • .42ml Metacam twice daily.
  • .45ml Co-trimoxazole twice daily.
  • 1/10 diluted Hibiscrub solution sprayed on his wound on his back twice daily, then wiped clean.
Is this normal? He's done between 30-40 poops in literally 4-5 minutes! Comparing his poops to his cagemates', they're identical in colour, firmness, feel, smell... Everything other than quantity.

On average a guinea pig will poop 100 times a day. Less than 50 is a sign something could be wrong. If he is eating a lot then he'll poop a lot. I think it's a good thing. It means his little body is working like a well oiled machine.

Sounds like he might benefit from probiotics. Anytime the poop factory goes a bit crazy, that’s my go to remedy. Have you ever heard of Benebac Plus? It’s available as a gel or in powder form. I’ve only used the gel. Give 1g (if you use the 15 gram gel syringe) approx 1 hr after you give the oral medications. Also back away from the fresh veggies a bit. Hopefully there’s no contamination lurking about. Remove old and uneaten food after 2 hrs.
